Decent result, defence was very solid as we limited them to very little. Jags was very good.
Poor on the ball, Ross looked rusty, but much better when Lukaku came on, gave us another option and outlet up front with his pace and power.

Good result away to a good team. It wasn't pretty and we could have nicked it but still lots of positives.
Solid right across the defence.
Captains performance from jags.
Rests for Coleman, McCarthy, Naismith and (in part) Rom. What's not to like.

You know, Dave, I would almost say a performance like that was better than a gung-ho attacking display where we were unlucky not to take all the points.

It shows the team is growing into the competition....learning to stifle the opposition....focusing on the task at hand.

Should serve us well not just in the remainder of this competition for as long as we stay in it but in the seasons to come when we hope this type of fixture becomes part of the staple diet for EFC.
Totally agree mate. Mature is the word to use I think...which is remarkable given how little euro experience they have.

An 8/10 away performance at such a dangerous ground.

mr statman how many english teams have beaten wolfsburg away from home in europe my dear

...eh? I haven't got a clue, I'm just repeating what the commentator said during the game that Manchester United are the only English club to win in Lille.

I don't think I mentioned Wolfsburg but I'm good at European capitals.

One of his best ever performances and I have to say, the little we've seen of him under Martinez, he has actually improved!

I think Tony has thrived since he started filling in for Seamus.

Who knows what kind of a full back he would have became under a coach like Roberto when he was a younger man.

Hibbo, take a bow son..

are we quibbling about a few months? The point is that he was the natural successor to Claus Thomson until he found some form. Anyone denying it would have a red face if they were vaulted on it.
Yes, yes we are. A few months, in this case, mean half a season. Half a season under a new manager, under whom he played and scored quite a lot more, because he wasn't used as a winger, because he's not a winger and it was what everyone and their nan were saying for the year he was with us with Moyes.

If it was 4 games he looked alright in - I'd give you that. But he looked very good under Martinez's playstyle and continues to do so. ~18 months means that he'd already played about 20 under Martinez, all looking very much better than what he was before, winning us points in the process and becoming a first team regular.

Either way, today isn't about Naismith. Tough away point, we got what we went out for - to not do anything stupid and drop points. I'd take that over being unlucky not to win and losing 3:2 or something stupid. Lille played like absolute faeceshouses and their conduct was absolutely poop. A point's a point, still top of the group.

Great point that. 2 clean sheets in a week. Jags looking boss. Boss Ross back in the team. I think we'll stuff them at home. Can't wait to see us at home in Europe again. I've got a feeling not many teams in Europe can live with our attacking play.
