Looking likely that top 5 will be needed for Europe.

The old Fairs rules are being re-activated so Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal will get one place only - ditto City and United. We'll be fine - just need to finish above the RS.

So, 1 of City and United together with the higher of Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal plus the higher of Everton or RS plus probably West Brom in the Champions League. Swansea - League Cup, Norwich and Sunderland in the Europa.

Sorted!!

This post confuses me.

9 days into the window, wait and see, then you can say whether or not we have a realistic chance.

I never said we didn't have a realistic chance lid.

This post confuses me.

It was meant to confuse - see similar contributions by others. You might need to refresh your memory of the Fairs Cup rules which denied us a place in Europe about 3 times in the 60s (in fact we got so fed up with the rule we took UEFA to some sort of tribunal and had the rules changed). As they stood (up to the mid 70s) only one team from a city could play in the European competitions. This was the rule that got Newcastle into the Fairs Cup in 1968 - a competition they won having finished 10th in the league the season before. Their last trophy was won because several teams that finished above them (including Everton) weren't allowed into the Fairs Cup.

Hahaha.......sad days.........

Swansea winning 2-0 just now means that Chelsea will need to score at least 3 in the second leg to make it possible for the League Cup EL spot to go to 6th place. Not likely.

The FA Cup would have to be contested in the final by two top five teams for that European spot to go to 6th, again not likely.

Forget 4th, we could be lucky to get into Europe at all...

Our targets are, in decending order, 3rd, 4th, FA Cup or nothing.

I wouldn't be fussed if we missed out on the Europa Cup, a total dogs breakfast of a comp.

If we do finish 5th we will not only contest the FA Cup Final, we will WIN it, which will then see us in the.....Doh

But then it wouldn't actually go to 6th in the league. POINTLESS AND INCORRECT CORRECTION LAD.

i'm sure i got it right somewhere, yeah 5th, LC and FA Cup/Runners-up, let's say arse came 5th and lost to man utd in FA Cup final it would go to the 6th placed team right?

We will end up 6th or 7th.

5th Europe
League cup winners Europe (if winners are already in Europe threw league finish 6th place becomes Europe)
Fa cup winners Europe. (If winners are already in Europe threw league finish fa cup runners up take Europe. If they have already qualified threw league 7th becomes Europe)
