Happened last year didn't it? In that both liverpool and chelsea qualified for europe by non fa cup means. And it happened when we were in it four years back because both us and chelsea qualified through the league. And it happened in practice three years ago when chelsea played portsmouth since neither finalist got a europa place that year (due to portsmouth being banned from europe).
So in the last twelve years the finalists have got a place through the FA Cup 5 times and not 7 times. (chelsea finished 6th and lost the final in 2002 so would have got it in the league even if they hadn't reached the final.)
