Current Affairs London Protests

they don’t but why make it easy .

SYL and his EDL types claimed they formed in response to a reaction to returning troops . Now they’d have almost certainly picked something else to champion and gather around but they thrive off stuff like this and they use it to ‘groom’ some that they wouldn’t normally get .
What's the alternative?

Funny how there are a lot of people from the BAME (largely older folk) on social media ashamed of some of whats been going on yet middle class white folk are defending it.

Its largely a minority of young angry BAME kids egged on by far left middle class whites to push their political aims.

No different to uneducated working class brainwashed by far right groups to do their dirty work as "dem foreigners r stealen ur jobs"
Funny how you’ll listen to some black people when they got with your narrative but not with the many on the streets protesting.

Curious as to why you think BAME people are protesting because white people have got them to.

your attempt at false equivalence is showing your true colours.

It isn't your stance I'm questioning Its the fact you took it on the strength of a 15 second video, when you're normally so thorough

No fair point mate. I mean I did try to put certain caveats into the response and make clear I was commenting on what evidence we had. I'm sure there's a much bigger narrative. As I've said, I hope the officer is ok. As a country we need to look closely at what is fuelling this anger and start trying to heal divisions that have been allowed to fester for too long.

Every week in London black kids are stabbing other black kids to death .
But people will get on the streets when a fella in the USA gets killed and have a riot.
Black lives in the USA matter more than there own people ?
As for that gobshite setting fire to the union Jack , hope he gets locked up that's going to give every racist in the country a picture to put about.

I‘ve been mentioning these stabbings and killings for a while, almost no one was interested. In this case case it appears that black lives aren’t really bothered about.......but of course Floyd is now a cause, and celebrities are all behind it and getting their pictures taken wearing their hearts on their sleeves.....A life is a life...

It‘s middle class white folk letting their hair down for a ‘cause’.......

Spot on mate. I'd love to know what our overburdened NHS workers are thinking about the current situation with these protests.

I suppose anyone questioning them will probably just be dismissed as 'racist'.
They're probably thinking protester violence isn't good, neither is police violence, people should be social distancing, but standing up for all of our rights, for a more equal and better society is an admirable thing.

All this carry on could potentially wipe out all the hard sacrifices from the last few months - grandparents not seeing their grandchildren, old people being isolated and locked away, companies going to the wall, people losing jobs or being furloughed, life put on hold, 40,000+ people dead and likely many more & further lockdowns causing further economic damage.

How many of these protesters were there to cause bother, or there out of boredom, or those who jump on any social media bandwagon & love any excuse to protest.

It’s sickening how the death of a poor bloke in another country has been used as an excuse to not only cause bother but potentially put many more lives in danger / burden the NHS even more.

I can understand the protests in the US but those in the UK? Its a farce - why weren't people arsed about this racist nation until the last couple of days? Why the sudden protests now? At a country and police force that had nothing to do with George Floyd.

People have been protesting for black rights for decades it hasn’t just suddenly happened.

The thing is what are they protesting for or against. What is it they want that will make this stop. Most wont have a clue....

I think most want to show solidarity with the American's. You have to say Trump really poured petrol on the fumes, which to be fair the Conservative Party haven't. I think a lot of them, and a lot of the Republicans must be looking on and thinking it really isn't helping. I mean even former Generals in the Army are speaking out, and Trump is diminishing their role. None of it helps.

It's also worthwhile saying, most protests seem to be going peacefully, the one where I live was very peaceful, distancing observed, and a calm event. Obviously Everton put a statement up supporting BLM which I think really hit the right note. We had a very tasteful banner on the opening day of the season too. It's a shame it is going the way it is in certain quarters. I also don't think spray painting Churchills statue is right, that causes me a lot of unease.

Mrs. Patel was looking rather attractive on the news earlier, I thought. Beauty, intelligence and assertiveness.... and, obviously, a powerful job.....quite the aphrodisiac

Not sure about your sexual taste...
Can't condone violence of the few , however, for the masses it was peaceful protest, glad to see our shameful historical slavery coming into the cross hairs.

It’s what they do every time there is a ‘march’.....deface a statue of the man who ensured they can live a free life to deface statues....he probably wishes he hadn’t bothered.....

I think there's a lot of angles and that's certainly one of them. I mean in honesty people like that really don't do the cause much good. I know BLM are getting a lot of stick for it, but I am not sure thats their politics at all. I saw a young teenage girl try to stop people hurling missiles at the police today. Of course the main commentary is that the people throwing them are scum, but there's very little to commend the bravery of that young woman. In moments like this, bravery like that gives me hope (and is a powerful symbol as any of the nonsense of racism).

I do also think the governments response to Covid has harmed us here. Essentially re-writing the rule book for Cummings has meant lots of people seem to think the rules don't apply to them.I was in town yesterday, and a fella was given a parking ticket, and went on a massive tirade to the parking attendant that the rules don't apply because of Dominic Cummings. Whether you blame Cummings, or the individuals involved what can't be denied is it seems to have translated as "I can do what I want". You can't govern like that. We can't function as a society if everyone just does what they want.

And yes, even if a government advisor breaks the rules and refuses to accept it, it doesn't make it right for you to do so. At some point people have to take ownership of their own actions.

We feel in a big mess though. I suspect we will see Brexit whipped up soon to try and further the divides, when we really now need someone to get a grip of the situation before it escalates further.
