Do you have some reading around tougher sentences and how they reduce crime?

Still not sure which part of your other politics put you centre left

No and I dont want to either because alot of reading is based on other cultures / societies that isnt comparable to that of the UK.

Im not prepared to get into the tedious debate on crime as I know straight away you'll be one of those "rehab not lock up" types but for me money shouldnt be wasted trying to rehabilitate a child molester or murderer they should be locked away with the key thrown.

I also think the victim and their family deserve an element of justice in punishment whereas the opposition view cares solely for rehabilitation.

Low level criminals like selling a bit of weed rehab all you want.

No - in fact during Blair's latter years the No.10 staff used to call him "the Ambassador from Planet F***" because he was the only reasonable one*

* edit: that is not to say that anyone on either side was reasonable

Didn't know that at all, I thought Ed Milliband was a pretty standard Brownite.

This is a hugely important point here. Not just the media and social media in of itself, but the types of people who are encouraged to be on the air. Yaxley-Lennon, Hopkins, Farage and the like.
While it's easy to laugh these tin-pot fascists off, but the damage they have done is huge.

I've said it elsewhere in here, but the key for them was winning over the people of the UK's small towns.

For years, the smaller working class satellite towns (In particular ones that were built around industries such as coal mining, docklands and large industry) were traditionally Labour hold gimme's. Especially given how hard a lot of these towns were hit under Tory rule in the 80's (Thatcher especially) with the closures of the mine pits/docks and the like.

The issue is, that we've allowed the tin-pot fascists like Yaxley-Lennon and co. to infiltrate these towns, preach to the disenfranchised and somehow turn the narrative away from the Tories being to blame for the lack off opportunities and investment in their towns and shift the blame towards immigrants, muslims and lefties.

And this is why the BBC gives such a platform to people like Farage. Get the peasants angry at the immigants.

If you did do some reading then you’d know it is very expensive to keep someone locked up. If it’s about money you would to rehabilitate and get them back paying tax. Prisons are very expensive to maintain.

So you’d put weed dealers into rehabilitation?

Seems odd that you think im the one with rigid views but you’re the one who refuses to read around a topic that informs your political outlook

Because you want to have a convicted murderer or child rapist out on the streets over "cost".

Abhorrent putting society in danger over a few bob.

World of difference between a low level and high risk offender.

What if the child rapist was that way due to a medical condition, and through surgery you could fix it?

Problem with most cases is, they are unique. If it were always as easy as looking it up on a menu, we wouldn't have months of backlogs in court cases.

Would seriously recommend Incognito by David Eagleman, great book and a real eye opener. I'm sure most would have a changed viewpoint after reading that.

I've never subscribed to the view of rehabilitation for paedophiles as I believe their attraction to children is as natural/fixed as much as a hetrosexual is to women and a gay person to the same sex - I dont think they choose to be attracted to children and can just switch it off.

I think those who believe you can "cure" paedophilia must also believe the nonsense that you can "cure" homosexuality or that people "choose" to be gay.

Personally I believe morally that there is a line in the sand and once you cross that line you dont deserve to be trusted to live in a civilised free society.

I appreciate those viewpoints as they weren't dissimilar to my own. I got into neural networks for my college course and through that, neural science.

David Eagleman is now one of my favourite authors, Incognito is probably his best work to date. It goes into the inner workings of the brain and real world examples. Truly fascinating read.

It only costs a load of money if you choose it to be that way, they should be locked up in a hole in the ground with bread and water only. Cheap as chips and might actually be a deterrent to committing a heinous crime.

The overwhelming research shows that a high proportion of people who abuse children were also abused as children. So by your reasoning if you cannot cure paedophilia then the vast majority of the innocent victims of child abuse are beyond redemption. The line has already been crossed for them therefore by your rules they are beyond redemption.
