Jeezus...sorry for any pessimism but we simply aren't beating them this Sunday, or any time soon for that matter. Did you see the first half against the mighty Huddersfield? Second half we got the goals but as soon as they pressed we looked shaky again (imo).

If Allardyce can turn around the performances and sort out our defence in under 8 days then I swear we should be checking his palms and feet for stigmata. They are going to tear strips off us on Sunday.

We will, however, beat the likes of Newcastle, Swansea and maybe even get draws at West Brom and Bournemouth away...that's our level just now and I'm happy enough with that because it's those types of results that will keep us safe. We might actually survive this debacle of a season (and I'm not convinced it's anything to do with Allardyce other than he might have put a rod up the hole of one or two who just haven't been trying hard enough).

Please make a crunt of me Everton. x

I don't think the season can actually be called a debacle as such until its over....theres plenty of time for that to develop though. To stretch your stigmata analogy further, I do think the lads will have to sweat blood to get something over there on Sunday - it all depends on whether Sam can alter the usual derby mindset, toughen them up and at the same time reproduce some of the flair shown v West Ham. As a priority, they do need to close the opposition down well outside the box to prevent the envitable via the continued dithering in the defence. I hope to God their fitness levels are being looked at to enable this as some of them are blowing for tugs before even the first half is out.

The most important thing is to keep our shape and sit in. It's not going to pretty and we're going to have to do it for large proportions of the game, but I have no doubt that Allardyce will be more than aware of what Everton need to do. We've ideally got to be looking to invite them on to us a bit, lull their fullbacks into a false sense of security (they love to get them forward as much as possible) and then hopefully win the ball back and try to ping it into wide areas for people like Lennon to dart on to. Their two centre-halves are dog turds, it's no secret, so get lads running at them on the counter-attack and we'll create chances. Most teams get chances against Liverpool.

With the reds, we know the way they'll play. Klopp doesn't change their style for anyone, a bit like Wenger, so Everton know what to expect. Look, it's them and everything and the weight of recent history is heavy on our shoulders - I get it. But they're certainly not unbeatable and I actually think we might have the right tools to beat them. We probably won't like, but still.

Atletico had a shocking record against Real Madrid. Possibly worse than ours, but yeah our performances have been grim.

Some credit has to go to Liverpool. Whilst they have the better players that doesn't always translate into a record like the one they've got against us. Every time we play this game they want it so much. Complete opposite to the spice boys of the 90s.
It's become beyond a joke our failure to beat them in recent years. Stoke beat them 6-1, Palace have beat them 3 times at Anfield, I don't think their players are that much more up for it than any other game. I think it's just our mentality and poor mistakes that has cost us at Anfield in particular over the years.

Valid point regarding the mentality of the team....not saying that alone will give us a win or draw but given our feeble efforts in previous years it needs to be addressed properly. We all want to see a team who are committed, fight for every ball, and actually play as a unit rather than a collection of individuals.......perhaps Sunday may be too early to expect this immediately but ffs we have to start somewhere...the pit maybe the ground to start sowing the seeds. Start playing without fear lads...COYB !!

It’s pains me to say, I’ve got a photograph taken after our last derby win with my son in his baby Everton kit aged 7 months. He’s now 7 years old and he hasn’t seen us beat them.

The thing is, their full backs really aren't that good. We should be happy to see them being the ones finding openings around our box. Much rather them than the more dangerous players anyway.

We've just got to weather that storm early on. I couldn't believe what I was seeing last year, they even gifted us a way back into the game and we still refused to take the sting out of things. I remember us giving the ball away countless times, trying ridiculous passes to open them up and even rushing the ball back into play from throw ins. So unnecessary.

Fair enough. At the moment it is a debacle, even with Sam "I want 6mill over 4 years / I'm not interested anymore / Hail the Messiah" Allardyce now signed up.
For all my dissatisfaction at his arrival, one thing I do feel is that he won't suffer fools gladly and we definitely need that right now.
It's a shame we have a Europa distraction but I do expect Sam to have them ready for a fight on Sunday.
The problem for me is....we just aren't very good. We're awful in fact.
Like we don't struggle enough as it is against them. :(
There is Wayne though and he is different class. Him scoring a winner, Kop end, to win it for us...."and the Evertonians are going beserk". (...but I'm not the only one). ;) coyb

Think Rooney will do a lot to change the derby mentality... he must be itching for this and he won't take anyone not giving 100% in training or on the day either... still get done by 4 goals tho
