It's absolutely tragic (but understandable) how our fanbase has had to just collectively give up on this fixture. There's no other team in Europe that has to deal with regular beatings from their main rivals like we do, is there? A pathetic record home and away over the past 20 years. The current crop need to realise that they can become instant heroes with a decent performance and the points on Sunday, Allardyce should see it as a way to get him some serious slack cut, too.

It would be massive footballing irony for this Everton team and this Everton manager to be the ones who finally smash the hoodoo but I'm still limited on belief. Watching the Liverpool highlights on Saturday did nothing but confirm that further, they're frightening going forward. For me, we have to not concede early doors. If we can get to 70 minutes level they'll start to get angry (most of them expect to batter us) and then we might just blag it.

Horrible game though, I hate it and I feel sorry for you lot who have to live with them in the City. The ones I know don't say anything because they never go and only follow L'pool because 'Gerrard'. There's a few of them on twitter getting really obnoxious though, discussing if they'll beat us by 8 or 9. Little farts.

...we played two defensive midfielders at their place last year, JD. The critical tactical decision Koeman got wron was not playing Barry. Mane and Coutinho play ‘between the lines’, Guey and Davies were caught the wrong side when both scored. The ‘between the lines’ space was brilliantly patrolled by Barry (he did it at United a few days later) but amazingly Koeman didn’t select him. It was suicide.

We still don’t have anybody who does that job. It doesn’t require a lot of running around, it requires real discipline.

Would you play Rooney in the #8 role then?

...I certainly don’t think he’ll be afforded the same time and space he got against West Ham. To be honest, it’s that space ‘between the lines’ of our midfield and back four that i’m most concerned about because they are the areas the Reds (and Man City) really exploit.

I’d be happier if we had a player like Barry or Carsley to call on.

I think Sam is right to be looking at sports psychologists, not just for this fixture but for others too, I think there was 2 or 3 seasons under Moyes that we finished above them lot and still couldn't beat them. Goes beyond footballing ability it's a mental block and it started at the top of our club if you ask me. Hope Sam can sort it with his ideas and methods.

Two weeks ago, I'd fear the biggest spanking in Derby history. But now I think we can at least give them a game. Liverpool have a fantastic front line. Lucky they can't defend set plays very well. I'd be surprised if its not big Sam's plan to get try and beat them that way.

Totally agree the mentality of everyone from the manager players to (some fans) all gift them lot the points before we start the match, acually it's not just them it's Man Utd away,Arsenal away and Chelsea away, the only time we have beaten any of them away in the league since the beginning of Moyes's time is when Moyes was managing Utd. That is one pathetic record that needs to be sorted if we are ever going to get into the big time. Need to really play a hard way against them, I think this could well be a game for an ugly style of football, to disrupt there rhythm a bit like Royle did all them years ago when he first managed us. I acually see similarities between a Big Sam and Royle o let's hope he can finally get us a win in this fixture. COYB.

Ross has bottled every Derby he has ever played in.

Absolute lies mate.

Was awarded MOTM in his first derby, the 3-3 one. As well as the 1-1 game at Goodison in 2015. Has missed a couple with injury. Was awful in the Goodison derby last season, awful in the first half at Anfield last season but probably ended the game our best player.

Fair enough if you reckon he's off and don't have time for him mate but don't make things up.

...amazing what short memory folk have. Henderson didn’t break sweat in 2 derbies last season, it was Barkley who ended up kicking him in both games. Barkley’s performance in the game at Goodison was appallingly poor in a match where we desperately needed him to get on the ball and give the defence a breather. His free kick into Gwladys St stand near the end epitomised his performance.

He was awful in that one but he's played well in other derbies mate, so clearly my memory is functioning a bit further back than yours with regards to this. Not to mention he is one of our more naturally talented players so he's a miss for any game, never mind one against better opposition.

Getting in at half time either level or ahead is paramount to us winning. If they score within the first 20 mins or so they'll win by 2 or 3 goals.

It's called self preservation Adam. Write the game off beforehand and psychologically it doesn't quite hurt as much when it actually happens. What makes it worse is they're not even close affairs anymore. Especially at Anfield we generally get absolutely tonked. Plus recently, the rot appears to have spread to our youth teams. I'm normally quite a positive person but as far as the derby's concerned that's been hammered out of me over the years.

Luckily, since I retired I don't have the constant pisstaking to go with the heartache.

Hope Rooney is captain for the derby. More than anyone else he will know what this game means, he has a winning mentality, and probably most crucial of all, the RS don't like him (I'm sure the feeling is mutual!) but he has enough big game experience to not let anything faze him.

He also won't suffer fools for this game I'm sure, and will demand nothing less than 100% commitment from his teammates. To me he'll be less likely to bottle his leadership responsibilities for the derby.

Totally agree with your final sentence.....Phew !! However.... the change of attitude in derbies has to start sometime....and why not under a new manager? OK we know they are better than us atm, but we need to replicate the approach Royle's team had and play with no fear...if that happens you never know;);)
