Really wish we Barkley for this, given that we're basically going to have to play on the counter, he could have done damage.

Lennon, Sig and DCL/Niasse will have to make the most of any opportunity when the ball breaks.

...amazing what short memory folk have. Henderson didn’t break sweat in 2 derbies last season, it was Barkley who ended up kicking him in both games. Barkley’s performance in the game at Goodison was appallingly poor in a match where we desperately needed him to get on the ball and give the defence a breather. His free kick into Gwladys St stand near the end epitomised his performance.

Just desperate for them to pick up some injuries against Spartak! Thankfully our players will be fresh.

Problems for us are if we play three centre backs we'll be sitting too deep and they'll inevitably score at least a few. If we stick with the same defence and go for a high line their pace will murder us and they'll score even more. I think we'll score one goal.. but unfortunately feel they'll score at least three. Just get this one over and done with.

Seeing as we'll have no other defenders to choose from on Sunday, we really need to rest all four against Limmisol or whatever they're called.

Look how city struggled to over come a West Ham team we knocked 4 past..

...we seem made to measure for them but i’ve seen us go there with very poor teams in the past and scrape a draw. West Ham almost got something at City yesterday so you never know. The main point is that I’m much happier going into this game on the back of two wins, I dread to think how i’d feel if I was still in the mood I was after the game at Southampton.

If we play smart we’ll stay in the game. Against that lot though we always seem to concede super early from a set piece and then let them pick us off on the counter. The longer it stays at 0-0 the more erratic they’ll become and we will get a chance at some point.

Am guessing Sam and Sammy will be working with the First team on the Derby all week, while Dunc and Unsworth with me cobbling the fringe/youth players together (under advisement) for the Europe on the Thursday night so Sam can see what he's got in reserve.

We've gone into Derby's with far better players and them with far worse and we've still been battered. At this point it's a mentality thing - the players we pick make no difference, Carragher said as much yesterday after the Man City game.

You'd hope. Send the likes of Klaasan, Sandro -maybe use Thursday as a chance to give a couple of the injuried players a few minutes if they can. Keep the rest for Sunday.

A week of defensive drilling and set pieces for the First Team is needed far more than a random dead rubber in Europe, plus Sam needs to see the rest of his squad in action as early as possible.

It will be interesting to see, what result Sam will get on Cyprus, since we need to build up comfidence, for the derby.

Hopefully the rs don't see us as a real threat, and set a team of subs, and take it as a walk over.

But schnide need to go. It will be like playing with 10 men, with him on.

He's had 4 days with the team and one of those was a match day. This will be a massive week for him.
