What do you mean? Was your Savile comment a joke?
How could it not have been.....dear god we have some stupid people on here.....
What do you mean? Was your Savile comment a joke?
Not entirely sure with the man who thinks complaining about the slave trade is PC gone mad
Indeed. My lad worked there while he was at UWE. Collsunall was always very busy.As far as I know, yeah. In Colston Avenue (?), opposite a statue of Colston, not far from Colston Hill, Colston Girls School, and probably half a dozen Colston named roads.
edit. Though I am sure you know, in the local dialect it is of course, The Collsunall.
Apart from you, who on this planet, or indeed any other, would even imagine that a street called Savile Row which has been the centre of bespoke tailoring for the last 2-300 years was named after Jimmy Savile.....
I did not think it. I thought you, going by your post history, would have got yourself into enough of a tizz to think it
This with bells on. Whitewashing history to facilitate and/or appease modern day views is reckless and borderline ignorant.No. For two main reasons.
1 - People don't have a clue why the street names are what they are by and large - I'd guess 99% of people.
2 - When people do, they can then learn about that period of history and understand the context of why what happened did happen. Simply trying to erase history does nothing - learn from it instead.
Indeed, my view of getting rid of them is an attempt to try and pretend it didn't happen. What good does that do anyone?
????? I was obviously talking about poor Jimmy RowOh come on. Savile Row....Jimmy Savile.....you even pushed the question twice...even though it was Kurt who mentioned Jimmy Savile......just put your hand up, admit you embarrassed yourself and move on......
Anyone know the story about the streets that all have Russian names? (Kremlin Drive, Moscow Drive, Russian Drive etc)
Did Russian people move there, hence the names?
If you come into the City via The Rocket then you drive past them to get to Goodison and I've always wondered about it
I know this one!
The land was owned by a Christian philanthropist who paid for housing to be built on it whilst he was away spreading the good word of the King James Bible to the Ruskies. He had such a boss time he named the streets on a Russian theme.
This is quite interesting.....
Liverpool Street Name Origins
