Little Green/Red dots

I've noticed us users have a little coloured dot (please dont misconstrue this as racist) on our profiles. mine is green and when i hover over it it says

Kingjoleon is on a distinguished road

...do these have any specific role or purpose?

it's your rep

Green means you have a good reputation.

Red means you don't if you hover over Halewoodblue's little dot it says he's a closet red.
 
It is reputation, and you guys can give it out. If you like a post give good rep or if you don't like a post you can give bad rep.
 
Can you view your rep? Like i have some rep but want to see what i got it for.

out of curiosity - i have an infraction giving me 10 points, is it like a driving license? so many points and your banned?:D
