Marc Guehi reprimanded for writing ‘I ❤️ Jesus’ on his rainbow armband.

We’ve already seen backlash on our own IGG for electing not to wear one of these armbands as it supports a cause that is contrary to his religion and supports an illegal activity in his home nation.

In my humble opinion, the EPL needs to either knock it it on the head completely or allow the likes of Guehi to do what he did.

There shouldn’t be pressure on players to express open support for things that can be controversial in there private lives for fear of being ostracised, while at the same time suppressing religion

Personally I don't like how you have framed this.

I'm sorry that footballers are forced to support equal rights.

How so?

You’ve highlighted one word in a sentence that actually said ‘There shouldn’t be pressure on players to express open support for things that can be controversial in their private lives

What do find objectionable in that sentence?

And as you have brought up ‘equal rights’ doesn't Guehi have an equal right to express his religious beliefs along side one of the EPL’s pet projects?

Pet projects yeah nice one

It was in Ale House. I moved it to Current Affairs.

The title is inviting discussion around LGBTQ/Religion.

Sure, the first post references Guehi, but it'll no doubt move beyond that. As it already has.
It is about a premier league captain and his actions, it is clearly a football matter.

But looks like you have made up your mind. Not the first time on here nor the last LGBTQ+ issues are going to be dragged through the mud for entertainment.

Would he write 'i love jesus' on a normal captains armband? or only when it's a pride armband?

I don't know, I don't watch football. Regardless, the point still remains - the PL/FA shouldn't be using players to push their political messaging, and leave them hanging out to dry if they don't push it, or complain when players make their own religious or political statements.

Actually, there is: Leviticus 18:22

Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; it is an abomination.”
Leviticus is Old Testament - nothing to do with Jesus directly.

Leviticus also says that you shouldn't plant 2 types of seeds in your fields, wear more than one type of fabric, no banging other peoples slave girls, not to eat meat with any blood still remaining (So no rare steak), no tattoos, don't trim your beard or sideburns and don't force your own daughter into prostitution (slave girls are fair game though, as long as they are yours)

It's one of the more batshit books of the OT (and that entire book is batshit)

It also has the line that a lot of modern so-called Christians like to ignore:

"`When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him."

But that's for another thread 😉

Religion, politics, monarchy etc all made up to suppress and influence the weak. Always has and always will.

Imho that’s all it is, alongside their Kick it Out campaign.
I have no issues whatsoever with either cause or the associated stuff that goes with them.
Doesn’t mean I don’t think what the EPL and Sky are doing is anything more than lip service.
Equally if someone, due to their religion or culture is uncomfortable having to participate in these things, there should be no shame on them abstaining from participation.
I find it highly hypocritical that he’s being chastised for expressing his religious beliefs while being mandated to express support for LGBTQ rights.
So again, rather than giving me the finger or a sneering reply, what do you find objectionable with ‘There shouldn’t be pressure on players to express open support for things that can be controversial in their private lives
