Townshend has scored 6 and got 3 assists in 20 games in a struggling side, that's a 1 in 2 goal involvement, and he's played the last couple of games recovering from a broken foot.

It's funny, because if you can't base it on effort, work rate, and goal involvement, what sort of intangible criteria are we basing Gordon's player of the season performances on? His ability to take corners?

Definitely not corners...With Gordon I'm basing it on willingness to work hard, his pace, always a worry for any defender, directness, to take players on. But he's made two or three goals this year and has finally scored a couple of his own. Also it's the massive improvement on last year, his age and potential. Great to see, last year he looked overawed, at times scared of his own shadow and really weak, this year it's as if someone's lit a fuse under him. Can just see him getting better and better, especially under Lampard who likes to work with young players.

Ha ha. Townsend takes every set piece. And how many assists and goals came in them cup games. Agains weak opposition

Gordon has scored more goals, but not really been that involved beyond that. Gordon's all round play, defensive and offensive contribution etc have been better. He is involved far more in build up.

Townsend started well, but to me has slacked off recently.

Agree to disagree.

Gordon has 2 goals and 2 assists, and 1 of the goals took a wild deflection.

I also don't think the defensive or tactical side of his game is a patch on Townsends.

He is faster, I'll give you that.

Townsend is what he is, a career long bottom half of the table player.Gordon is a player for the future. Townsend scores the odd screamer and crosses the ball in a dinosaur tactics team, Gordon is a footballer who fits into the modern game.

I think he is better in the build up. But can see where you are coming from.

What's clear though is Gordon has done very well this season.

I don't think you can use willingness to work as a plus for Gordon over Townsend. And Gordon's corners are comically bad.

He has definitely stepped up a notch this season, and I don't want it to be a Davies thing of people getting on his case for everything. But I also don't want it to be the other Davies thing where we build him up to unachievable standards based on flashes, and that's all I see from Gordon at the moment. I don't think he does enough or takes enough responsibility in the final 3rd to be getting the adulation he is getting, and I think his positional sense and defensive strength need a lot of work.

But he is young and hopefully he keeps on improving.

I don’t care about his corners his all round play is better, he’s more dangerous in open play.

Townsend’s tactics all his career is, run down the wing then cut back on to my left foot and ping a cross in. And when im
25 yards out, shoot. There’s a reason he’s spent the majority of his career in the bottom half of the league

Spot on summed up perfectly, Townsend was something we need in the summer, with the lack of funds. I don’t see a future anymore. Richarlison will go in the summer if imagine.

I think Frank will bring in a top class wide player and also a young one for the future. So we will have new first choice, new youngster. Plus gray, Gordon and Dobbin. Hopefully the club can shift iwobi Amd Townsend

It's not natural for someone to lose all ability. Who knows what he will do.

But we should be honest in our assessment of him. He has been one of the best young players in Europe this season, when you factor in the context. 5 or 6 MOTMs wracked up already. Glad to see hes proven the doubters wrong.

You're gonna have to be more specific with this. Because he's nowhere near it. Like not even top 50
