i didn't say he wasn't an excellent player, just that his attributes make him far more of an asset to our team than they would to city, namely that his versatility and goal threat won't be nearly as much of a benefit for city as they are for us.
i'm not being bitter here, i really think city are going after the wrong kind of player.
terry was a good shout for them, a solid, consistent centre back.
lescott is a very good centre back, but do you remember how shockingly bad he looked at the beginning of last season? at times he was awful, and even the season before once or twice he made mistakes that make you shake your head.
in spite of this, lescott is pretty confident on the ball, and more importantly he's a goal threat. we really don't score all that many goals, lescott is a defender that comes up with important goals, match made in heaven. also, lescott is versatile enough to play two positions (3 actually, we played him as a striker against someone 2 seasons ago in stoppage). city have a gigantic squad, everton barely have a full first team and we seem to have the bad luck of having every single player injured for some time, so while lescott's versatility isn't all that great for them (they have plenty of wide defenders), its invaluable for us.
city on the other hand, will have no shortage of goals this season. tbh i think a player like yobo would be better for them, someone who's not necessarily the most skilled going forward, and is nowhere near as versatile, but who will typically make a tackle when its needed. also, they have the quality up front to receive yobo's hoofs and do something with it. with lescott, i can see him make a couple mistakes (the kind we all forgave him for because we knew he's quality), and get thrown out with the rubbish to make way for the new highly paid star. i just don't see city demonstrating the patience to take the good with the bad.
He was only [Poor language removed] because he was at left back and teams realised that if you get someone with pace to run at him, he'll come unstuck. A bit like Hibbert on the right at the moment.
Watching Toure for Citeh the other day, he was rock solid. The players around him werent, especially his partner Dunne, Micha Richards, and even Bridge who I dont rate at defending.
The minute Toure and Lescott get together, they're strong, intelligent, big, and like to pass. They will be strong at the back.
Defo true then......
Regardless of how you rate Lescott, high time for him to go. His own little personal saga is bleeding over - addition by subtraction.
So lets say he signs for City around £20 million, no players, just cash.
YOU are David Moyes, you've just lost an England international defender.
YOU are short of central defensive options, and only have one senior left-back at the club currently.
YOU are in no less than four competitions this season.
YOUR squad is already dangerously low on numbers, nevermind cover for the defensive areas.
Remember, YOU'RE Moyes, what do YOU do?
