Lescott trains away from 1st team squad

i didn't say he wasn't an excellent player, just that his attributes make him far more of an asset to our team than they would to city, namely that his versatility and goal threat won't be nearly as much of a benefit for city as they are for us.

Then you compared him to Yobo, saying he's a more dogged defender. I've got to disagree with that to be honest. Yobo's one of the most laid back centre backs in the League.

He was our second best centre back, he'd probably be there best. He'll be a huge asset for them.

i'm not being bitter here, i really think city are going after the wrong kind of player.

terry was a good shout for them, a solid, consistent centre back.

lescott is a very good centre back, but do you remember how shockingly bad he looked at the beginning of last season? at times he was awful, and even the season before once or twice he made mistakes that make you shake your head.

in spite of this, lescott is pretty confident on the ball, and more importantly he's a goal threat. we really don't score all that many goals, lescott is a defender that comes up with important goals, match made in heaven. also, lescott is versatile enough to play two positions (3 actually, we played him as a striker against someone 2 seasons ago in stoppage). city have a gigantic squad, everton barely have a full first team and we seem to have the bad luck of having every single player injured for some time, so while lescott's versatility isn't all that great for them (they have plenty of wide defenders), its invaluable for us.

city on the other hand, will have no shortage of goals this season. tbh i think a player like yobo would be better for them, someone who's not necessarily the most skilled going forward, and is nowhere near as versatile, but who will typically make a tackle when its needed. also, they have the quality up front to receive yobo's hoofs and do something with it. with lescott, i can see him make a couple mistakes (the kind we all forgave him for because we knew he's quality), and get thrown out with the rubbish to make way for the new highly paid star. i just don't see city demonstrating the patience to take the good with the bad.

He was only [Poor language removed] because he was at left back and teams realised that if you get someone with pace to run at him, he'll come unstuck. A bit like Hibbert on the right at the moment.

Watching Toure for Citeh the other day, he was rock solid. The players around him werent, especially his partner Dunne, Micha Richards, and even Bridge who I dont rate at defending.

The minute Toure and Lescott get together, they're strong, intelligent, big, and like to pass. They will be strong at the back.

Regardless of how you rate Lescott, high time for him to go. His own little personal saga is bleeding over - addition by subtraction.

right agree to disagree then, it remains to be seen but you could be right.

and toccy, when i compared him to yobo, i meant it because i think i rate yobo more than most people on here. he's a good centre back and i think moyes did the right the thing in making him vice captain some time back.

i don't really think you can use words like "better" when comparing centre backs. its not like strikers where you can see who knocks more in, its a very difficult position to judge, because teams are intricate machines, and forcing the wrong peg into a hole will not solve anything. so i would say yobo and lescott are very different styles of player, generally speaking lescott would (and rightfully should command a higher transfer fee), but that doesn't mean he will be the answer to city's problems.

at any rate, it looks like in a week or 2 we'll see how they work as a team for sure.

Defo true then......

There was a clip on SSN earlier of Everton training today. The cameras were there so I'm sure this is were this story has come from in the first place cos these fookers dont miss anything. They'd have reported it straight away.

So lets say he signs for City around £20 million, no players, just cash.

YOU are David Moyes, you've just lost an England international defender.

YOU are short of central defensive options, and only have one senior left-back at the club currently.

YOU are in no less than four competitions this season.

YOUR squad is already dangerously low on numbers, nevermind cover for the defensive areas.

Remember, YOU'RE Moyes, what do YOU do?

i get the point you're trying to make, but he's seen us through tough times before i'm confident he's in it for the long haul.

also remember neville played left back for england at one point, we have enough cover to get by and we'll be fine

I sell him today. I buy Senderos today. I buy Hutton and Bentley today. I get my side ready to win on Thursday.

If only it was that easy.

We have been 'trying' to buy Senderos for almost two weeks now...

Also I don't believe Spurs fans would be happy taking such a huge loss on Bentley and Hutton.

Getting them both for £12 million would be a real coup, it wouldn't happen though.

They bought Bentley alone for more than that.

Banega coming in gives us one more option, but as always it's one step forward, two backwards.

At the beginning of last season the vast majority of people on here were screaming for him to be dropped. The England call up had gone to his head, didn't want to play LB etc etc.

He can be very casual at times, and has cost us goals in the past. Well now we'll see how we go without the inconsistent, big headed, prima donna judas. :D

I like the little internet rumour going around about Lescott being dangled in front of Utd though... That coming off would at least provide a bleak smile in this whole mess.
