I think Everton must have asked if he'd be willing to sign a new contract before they went and rejected a £15m bid for him.

Everton were obviously listening to offers for Baines so it was pointless offering him a new contract whilst that was happening. Baines never forced a move, so he's clearly happy and content here, it'd be stupid not to offer him a new deal the moment he's back from Internationals. Be surprised if we arent talking to his agent.

I think it's clear now after Martinez's comments that LB is an 'Evertonian', that LB is really an Evertonian. Hopefully he stays until he retires.

He'd never admit it publicly based on what we see, but I'm sure he would like to go somewhere and challenge for trophies. I don't have any inside info from him or anyone else, I just think it's obvious that most players want that. And I think even the most ardent Blue would say that we're probably not challenging for trophies during the remainder of this contract with the transition that we're going through.

saying we have opened contract talks. We need to get European football this season it's a must if we are going to keep hold of him. Baines has acted with absolute dignity and showed true respect to the club and fans, he's a Legend but we can't begrudge a player of his quality not playing in Europe.
