Moyes strikes me as the type of manager that would call Lescott into his office, tell him that Baines is starting against Hull in his place, and offer a few words of encouragement or a kick up the backside depending upon the player and the situation.

Starting the next match on the bench might do wonders for Lescott. Might do some good for the team as well.

It's a tough call. You've got a man that you know can turn a game on its head in a second. But he's crap at the moment. But our experience of him is somewhat different.

Glad I don't have to make the decision.

He's had a couple of bad games, but he won't be dropped just yet.

Keep em keen treat em mean. They are all supremely paid youngsters who need a good rollicking every now and then. Pull your head in. You know the story.

Its up to Baines to really make that left back spot his own when he gets the chance and give Moyes a good headache. He has to get that chance first, but I reckon Moyes is turning Baines into a savage dog chomping to get out on the pitch. And when he does someone poor opposition are gunna get mauled.

Play Baines, give Jo a rest/kick up the ass, and at the end of the day. Baines should be playing and doing what he was hired for. Running the left. I think Lescott is fantastic, but he is a central Def that can cover left. It is not his primary role. He should fill the gap that Baines opens when he runs the line. Simple football.

agree 100%, Baines is a good attacking left back, yeah he is not as strong a defender as our best CENTRAL defender, but, we need him to give us width on the left in attack, Give the guy a decent chance.

play baines he did nothin wrong to get dropped in the first place... in fact i thought he was our best player before he went to the bench

Baines is not a good left back at all i was at the game against portsmouth and he was [Poor language removed] he was always out of position and getting caught out he is better goin forward than defending infact i wud neva put him in defense again and put him in left mid

58% of fans voting in this poll currently think we should drop lescott completely from the starting 11.

christ, I'm glad Moyes is in charge.

f u c k me!

exactly. i'm more than happy to be in the minority here. lescott is one of the best players we've had for a generation. i'm not going to vote to drop him for leighton bloody baines.

it'll be the same fans that jumped on yakubu early on.

Lescott wasn't faultless last season but he was close - our best player playing out of position, setting goals up, scoring ten goals himself and defending solidly.

a couple of bum games and suddenly leighton baines is roberto carlos, which neatly avoids the issue that baines hasn't had one great game for everton in his career so far and has looked sub standard when he's played this season.

baines can come good, but Lescott being dropped like a stone now would make lescott feel worthless and dint his confidence.

He just needs to reign back on his wing play and stay in position a bit more. i.e he just needs to defend first and attack second.

I hope baines can come good, especially being a local lad, but moyes sees him in training week in and out and is reticent to play him for one reason or another. I trust his reasons.

I expect the player of the season award will be between arteta, yakubu and lescott this season.

o everton fans, why so fickle?

You say that as if he made one misplaced pass in one match and people are jumping on him.

I actually agree with everything else you said but i fully understand why people are thinking he should be dropped.

He is playing awful this year and costing us goals which costs us results so people have every right to be on his back (on here certainly but hopefully not at the game).

Its not being fickle, its worrying about why one of your best players isn't performing and what can be done to change that.

moyes recently said lescott is one of the best defenders in the country. he compared him to rio ferdinand who also had a dip in form. the thing with lescott is that he is a quality player which ever way you slice it. to drop him would be foolish.

some of you need to take yourselves to one side. after two seasons of proven quality you want him out of the team?

in the words of the great michael caine. behave yourselves.

Worrying about why one of your best players isn't performing and what can be done to change that - is not being fickle.

deciding to drop him from the starting 11 (as 58% of the fans voting have done - last time I checked) is being fickle.

I can see an argument to place lescott in the centre again. Or moyes having a word in his ear about recklessly attacking and leaving space behind him (like baines wouldn't be doing that) - but dropping one of our star players?

His form would have to be poor for a sustained period before I think it would warrant that. Jesus the season has just started and but for a bad referee decision at home to blackburn (were we should've got a point) we'd be about 5th now.

Not bad playing kids, new signings and three left backs at once.

wait till the full squads back and the new signings learn our game.
