Left Back Debacle

We should try and buy Tierney or Sessegnon. If we can't get them I would look at a loan from a Spanish or Italian team. They no doubt have an experienced left back who can't get a game that we could pay a loan fee for?
Maybe we could try a bid of 25m + Martina for either of those two mentioned, then they're also sorted for a left back for the rest of the season.

That said, if we're trying to include Martina in the team they'd probably prefer a straight cash offer of around 10m instead.

They MUST be looking for a LB, BFS has mentioned it multiple times. We must not be linked to any because we have a super secret one we are signing? I know its unlikely we get a top player in, so if we cant pull a loan deal for say, Shaw, which I think would be the ideal scenario, then unless we can really convince the likes of Tierney to come maybe we are looking for a CB of the future who can fill in at LB, kind of like Funes Mori did.

Because with already having Baines, you dont want to spend a lot of money on and bring in a LB that ISNT your LB of the future, but you still have to pay for the next 2-3 seasons, because hes just going to be 3rd choice.

Not signing a LB was daft
Not signing a LB and failing to register Garbutt was ridiculous.
Not signing a LB failing to register Garbutt and then sending Robinson and Connolly on loan was gross mismanagement.

If the club allow the window to close without us sorting the Left Back situation out, at least even a suitable short term solution until the end of the season then it's as big a failure as the striker situation in the Summer for me. Just don't know how they could think that's acceptable. Can't say I am too confident at the moment either.

I've defended Martina on the occasions where I think he has done a job, but he has developed in to a huge problem in the last month or so, and he is damaging our whole left side with his inability to use his left foot and also not being able to provide an attacking threat with crosses. That's even before getting in to his defensive weaknesses. I don't actually think playing any of our other right footed options there would improve us much though. At left back you simply need a left footed player who is capable of getting up and down the wing to put crosses in and can defend to an acceptable standard week in week out. Martina can't do it.
