That's why it will never happened...just not realistic proposition. The can of worms of allowing other clubs to sue each other is massive.
Let's say for example there is a season that City won the league, where they are found guilty of enough charges that they would have been relegated....presumably the third lowest team that got relegated that season could sue them for 100 million. Up to 19 teams that season would demand a million (roughly) each for lost league position payments. 5th placed team that season can sue for loss of champions league money and team that missed out on Europa placement could also ask for loss from European competition.??
If found guilty over all those years they are charged, their legal claims would be into the billions.
Exactly. That was easy to quantify because West Ham fielded an ineligible player and that player directly influenced games which resulted in Sheff Utd being relegated.West Ham gained a sporting advantage though. That's why they settled.
Seeing a lot of Wolves fans taking the opportunity to stick the boot in. In my recollection they're far from squeaky clean both financially and by devious signing of players.Being honest the majority of Leicester fans I've seen alone are proper fans, going down the line of " we went down because we were crap, not because everton lost 20m"
Burnley fans don't seem that arsed because they are a yo yo club anyway.
Leeds fans are just propa weird scruffs, they're fuming on behalf of themselves and everyone else.
Hope they stay in the lower leagues where they belong
Still it means that clubs can take legal action against other, so just saying premier league clubs can't sue each other and it's the premier league only isn't the get out of jail card we thought it was.West Ham gained a sporting advantage though. That's why they settled.
That was many many years ago, the rules and laws have literally changed since then, so theres no relation to what they could do in the West Ham case to what they are allowed to do now.Still it means that clubs can take legal action against other, so just saying premier league clubs can't sue each other and it's the premier league only isn't the get out of jail card we thought it was.
I do think they won't have a case, as it's pretty much impossible to quantify any losses those clubs had as a direct result of our breach
Not sure if rules relating to that have been changed, the story has come from the independent panel saying the small clubs may have a claim if Everton are found guilty. That was many many years ago, the rules and laws have literally changed since then, so theres no relation to what they could do in the West Ham case to what they are allowed to do now.
Poor old Derby County finished 3rd that year and lost in the playoffs.. they are in league 1 now could have gotten automatic promotion if Leciester didn't break the rules..Lecister also been found guilty ffp when they got promoted and didn't get sued.
Yes, thats the PL rules, that clubs "may" have a claim if a club is found guilty. So they present to the commission after a guilty verdict to see if they will award anything, the commission decides if they will award anything, and then regardless of the outcome the clubs can not sue or issue a claim in court. Thats all in the PL rules book and without looking up its history I suspect that all got added after and very specifically because of the West Ham situation. Not sure if rules relating to that have been changed, the story has come from the independent panel saying the small clubs may have a claim if Everton are found guilty.
Not sure if there is any particular rule that directly prevents clubs from persuing compensation from another
