Ledson to leave Everton?

I don't understand and can't believe we are just letting him go. I could understand the transfer if there is a buy-back clause, but no mentions anywhere... I just feel this is going to be another situation like Mustafi. Cheaply letting go a young player that wants to play, getting almost nothing... and then we will meet him in a great club in a few years. And it is not like Mustafi is the only player like that. Adam Forshaw is playing for Middlesbrough in their starting line-up and is much better player than Darron Gibson. And Ledson will meet another our former youngster in Oxford. It is John Lundstram, just 22, who is their captain and helped them to promote to Championship. Pure idiocy not giving these players a buy-back clause...

mate there is unfortunately nothing to suggest from what ledson has shown that he's goin to be another mustafi or dier.
its taken forshaw 4 yrs after leaving us to make it as premier league player and we got a got a decent fee for him which included a sell on clause.
lundstram plays for oxford in league 1 not the championship.
we cant just keep players in the hope they suddenly improve after years of stagnation. he has his own future to think of.

I wish Ryan all the best at Oxford and hope his career is successful.
Really disappointing that for whatever reason, his early promise did not grow into the 1st team regular that we all hoped.
Shows just how difficult that final step truly is.
There is no shame in a player taking steps back to take potential leaps forward.

I am pleased to see Forshaw, Mustafi and any of our former academy players make good of their football talents (as long as it is not across the park). Reflects well on us as a club if we cannot provide a place here, we give a platform for them elsewhere.

Bin Barkley? Erm...is that how you interpret me saying we should play him in a certain position - that seems obvious to me is the one he's destined for - as me saying we should bin him?

Past 20 years mate, never mind 30. Players who've come through (appearances in brackets):

Osman (358)
Rodwell (68)
Rooney (48)
Ball (116)
Barkley (109)
Jeffers (51)
Anichebe (73)
Cadamarteri (50)
Dunne (65)
Hibbert (297)

Not bad as a return - all those first team games.

And that's not to mention players like Branch, McCann, Vaughan, Duffy, Baxter, Pennington, Browning etc who got some game time.

The next generation who can become part of the top list are Davies, Dowell, Connoly and Kenny...but only if they get on the pitch.

I'd add Pennington to that list

I actually think he's the best prospect we have. There may be others with more footballing skill, but he's the most complete player IMO

What makes me feel slightly better about this is that it seems another young player (In this case Davies) has been the one to edge Ledson out as opposed to a journeyman player (Such as when Alcaraz was keeping youngsters out of the team)

That at least reassures me somewhat that we're still producing good young players

That'll be Oxford that play in league one? Arguably Mustafi is one that'll be a head scratcher for years to come - there's always one player out of 100 that will bite you on the bum. But, surely if Ledson was the world beater everyone claims it wouldn't of been a League One team that signed him?
Ah, sorry, you are right, League One it is.

...I don't know the detail behind Mustafi but sometimes young players leave even when the club would like them to stay. I think that was the case with Dier.
