Leaving Goodison - feelings

For me Goodison went when the new main stand replaced the enormous Goodison Rd. terracing and stand and the job was completed with the advent of the new park end and all seater stadium. The stadium as it was in that era was really something special, but, the piecemeal changes in an effort to make Goodison acceptable to the modern day fan took the soul from the place. It will always be in my heart, I first went to Goodison in 1962, but it doesn't hold the same appeal for me these days.

Im not ashamed to admit I will have tears in my eyes on that final day,its been the one constant in my life, players and managers he been and gone, family and friends the same, jobs, gfs, all been and gone, but goodison has been there,a second home a place where you met kindred spirits a place to forget the crap job,the annoying bird,to get all the frustration out of the system,to admire great players on both sides and to witness history in the making
Long before ground tours I was given the chance to look round this magnificent stadium, coming out the tunnel and into the centre circle,it was the 1st time I realised the true size of the ground and to this day I swear you could hear the ghosts of spectators past
We have to move and create new history but it will be with heavy heart and I may well be dragged kicking and screaming when the final whistle blows

That was the turning point,if only they had built a triple deck stand with a plan to extend it around to the Park End then the Bullens. Gwladys St and the church could have been a flat stand like La Bombonera.

It will be a sad day when we leave Goodison. Obviously everyone will have loads of memories. I remember Kevin Campbell scoring a hat trick against West Ham on my first visit when I was 7. Goodison is a one of a kind. Hope our new stadium has that feel too, big shoes to fill.

Thats why Ive never done it, only ever stood in the Paddock at Goodison, the street end as it is has never appealed to me but when I was a kid it looked hardcore!
It was safer than the boys pen for all that, now that was hardcore, I got out as soon as I could and into what is now LGS4...which is why BPB's claims never ring true with me, they'd of ate him alive...I can imagine him being like Walter out of Dennis the Menace

I hate to say this because Goodison holds so many happy memories for me, but it has held us back for decades now, both commercially and in terms of its capacity, or lack thereof.

These big projects almost always experience delays. It looks like the plan is to be in the stadium for the 20/21 season but I would be surprised if that us achieved so it will probably end up being a bit of a long goodbye.

Saddened at the thought of leaving the home of football for me for the past 30 years, and excited at the prospect of a shiny, state of the art, new dockside arena

Sad but excited. We need to leave to make the next step.

Can we leave Bill behind at Goodison too, security guard for the boys pen.

I'll miss it and it'll be a sad day to leave all those wonderful (and not so wonderful) memories behind

But it'll also be an exciting day, a day to look forward to taking our seats in our new riverside home, the next chapter in the clubs history.

I will cry when we leave, I am determined to be at the last game at Goodison and give her a good send off. I'm excited for the new stadium but there will never be anywhere like Goodison. And I agree- let's win something for the old girl.
