We havnt had a leader on the pitch for years.
At least he shouted and looked like he cared, who was doing that today, answer no one.I would take a Phil bloody Neville right now!
True, Gueye was the nearest but he wasn’t vocal. We havnt had a leader on the pitch for years.
Quality is what we need. Who was the last great leader anyone can remember who was generally seen as a weak link in the team? We lose because we lack ability, leadership would help cover up that issue, but it wouldn’t solve it.

I understand that but you need to have the ability to do it. That’s why we’ve had loads of players with theoretical leadership skills (delph, Coleman, Rooney, barry, jagielka, Williams etc) but it hasn’t made any difference. It’s one thing having the will to do something and another having the ability. We have lots of will, not so much ability.Leadership isn't just about shouting and pointing. A leader will take a game by the scruff of the neck and will not accept being bit without a fight. That can mean just upping your game and making sure we keep the ball/ put pressure on the opponent or have a few digs at goal etc.
We need both. There are teams above us in the table with poorer quality squads and poorer first teams. Continuing to sign talented players with no one on the pitch leading by example, making sure the managers strategy is being followed, picking players up when they are lacking in confidence and giving them a rocket when they have too much confidence will just lead to this perpetual churn that we are seeing with the playing staff. Sooner or later we have to settle on a team, 5, 6, 7, 8 new players every year is not sustainable. Either from a playing or financial perspective.Quality is what we need. I know we need central midfield players, a centre half and a goalscorer but the thing I think we lack the most is a leader on the pitch.
Delph was apparently bought with this in mind but I've seen no sign of it myself. Coleman, Mina and Pickford shout and point a lot but it seems to have little effect.
We need to sign a player that garners respect from his peers, organises on the pitch and takes no crap from refs and the media. Only problem is I'm not sure who we could get that fits that profile!
