Sadly misfiring adaptation of James Lee Burke's deep south thriller. I like TLJ but can't take to him as Dave Robicheaux, the film is tonally all over the place, it's very dated in style (even for the time), it feels rushed, and the interwoven plot, rich settings and characters are poorly realised, a shame given the source and a good cast. Credit to the filmmakers for shooting in New Iberia and keeping the local vernacular in place, but the spirit of the book is lost like so many confederate ghosts in the mist.

Better than 'Heaven's Prisoners', but one day someone's gonna make a great version of one of these books, this ain't it unfortunately.

Watched Dune again the other day. Epic story, amazing ensemble cast.

Why hasn't anyone re-made this movie? TBH it's the sort of material that you could easily see turned into a trilogy or a high-production sci-fi series.

It was mate, back in 2000:

Was OK, still needs a proper job doing though. This would've been a helluva thing mind you:

Jodorowsky, Giger, Chris Foss, Pink Floyd. What might have been...

Put it this way mate, about half way through Mrs d'indica says 'he's really good whoever that guy is playing Bulger.'
'You mean that guy Johnny Depp?'
'IS IT?! BLOODY HELL!!'

Well that was pretty powerful!
Felt like it was tension all the way through, without any break from it.
Couldn't really fault any performance but, Depp was good.
