Sadly misfiring adaptation of James Lee Burke's deep south thriller. I like TLJ but can't take to him as Dave Robicheaux, the film is tonally all over the place, it's very dated in style (even for the time), it feels rushed, and the interwoven plot, rich settings and characters are poorly realised, a shame given the source and a good cast. Credit to the filmmakers for shooting in New Iberia and keeping the local vernacular in place, but the spirit of the book is lost like so many confederate ghosts in the mist.
Better than 'Heaven's Prisoners', but one day someone's gonna make a great version of one of these books, this ain't it unfortunately.
