Alien Covenant: a decent film - much better than Prometheus, but suffers from pacing issues. Visually, it is stunning - did I see some Milford Sound shots in there.

Minus The Martian, I really think Ridley Scott hasn't made a great movie in aggeeeesssss (Gladiator good)

Watched these two this week, both had mixed / poor reviews.

Boogeyman is dreadful, with the Boogeyman looking like a terrible CGI Gollum on crack.

Ouija isn't half bad, with some good performances all round and a nice twist at the end.

Dont know quite what to make of the new Alien.

I dont think its got alot going for it at all on reflection. Prometheus was a way better film in so much as it introduced new concepts, fairly stunning visuals and developed a backstory for Weyland. Even if not hitting it marks with its human origin line its prompted fierce debate into its direction and offered something that on re-watching it can change your perspectives on first viewing. It did mine, anyway.

This one just seems cheap and tries to plod an all too familiar course. Watch the original film and its treatment of the awakening from hypersleep, its introduction of the crew, their discovery and subsequent extermination, and then put it side by side with this. Light years between them. I can't take Danny Mcbride seriously and the whole timeline of the final act makes no sense. I would have liked to see some more development of some of the characters - Carmine Ejogo and Callie Hernandez. Not to mention the fact that they seemed so unscientific and so unprepared to venture into an alien world.

Fassbender is of course superb, and he makes the most of it despite Scott's mission to completely rub out what Prometheus set up. Not quite Alien 3 in its destruction of the characters from the previous installment, but close.

The plot is a mess, the plot lines were predictable, with gaping holes in them and the ending was predictable. The lack of a proper lead meant that you didn't care whether any of the characters lived or died.

The only saving grace is Michael Fassbender.

It's even worse than Aliens v Predator.

A wasted opportunity.

Get in the bin.

Loved it again. Will age well.

Finally got round to seeing Creed (it's on Netflix), good film, really enjoyed it. Strong performances across the board, made a straightforward A to B story really compelling and Goodison looks spectacular.

Was it because you placed such high expectation on it or was it really poor? Maybe a second viewing might show it in a better light
