Both.

There really isn't an excuse for it being so bad.

Everything was in place following Prometheus for a great follow on.

They blew it big time.

I'm a massive fan and I'd advise anyone who hasn't seen it, not to bother.

Ps : if the Blade Runner sequel is as bad, I'm going to be possibly the most disappointed since I got off with a girl who took her kit off and was wearing a colostomy bag.

Just come back from watching it.

Can I add, it's dreadful.

First twenty minutes could be condensed to five.

The plot is a mess, the plot lines were predictable, with gaping holes in them and the ending was predictable. The lack of a proper lead meant that you didn't care whether any of the characters lived or died.

The only saving grace is Michael Fassbender.

It's even worse than Aliens v Predator.

A wasted opportunity.

Get in the bin.

Yuuuuuuup. I thought it was trash, and there's a spate of reviews hailing it as a return to form for the franchise which saddens me.

There's a great review by Mark Kermode on YouTube that pretty much hits the nail on the head. The script is absolute turd and there's no way around it. Dull, predictable and characters that were so badly drawn out, you could have freely exchanged their dialogue and not noticed the difference. Part of the reason there was no dramatic tension was that there was no point in the film where I cared if the dull flesh props lived or died.

I was actually at an Alien/Aliens double bill in the cinema before Covenant was released and, right in between both showings, they played a full 10 minute passage of the film where they land on the planet, go exploring, get infected, the first creatures pop out, 4 crew members die and the ship explodes. Without warning, I had to sit through that entire poorly-paced segment of the film, so I was already pretty opposed to it before even going in.
