Last Film You Watched

The Bay (2012) - Horror/Thriller

'The residents of a seaside Maryland community become the unfortunate hosts of mutant, waterborne parasites that take control of their minds and bodies.'

It's a 'found footage' type film and I know that a few on here are fed up with this type of filming. However, this one's actually Ok. It's a sort of news report/documentary, which lends itself to this type of subject. Worth a watch.

The Shallows (2016) - Drama/Thriller

'Still reeling from the loss of her mother, medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) travels to a secluded beach for some much-needed solace. Despite the danger of surfing alone, Nancy decides to soak up the sun and hit the waves. Suddenly, a great white shark attacks, forcing her to swim to a giant rock for safety. Left injured and stranded 200 yards from shore, the frightened young woman must fight for her life as the deadly predator circles her in its feeding ground.'

Not as good as 'Jaws', don't think any will be really but, this was quite good and had subtle nuances that made it different.
Definitely worth a watch.
On a side note, Blake Lively is gorgeous!

Alien: Covenant

Hmm, how do gauge this one.

Well, I enjoyed it. But if you didn't like Prometheus, then I am pretty sure you will not like this. However, I did like Prometheus. More dumb humans whose main purpose is to panic and do silly things leading to their death.

The scariest thing about this movie is not the Aliens.

And god damn, Michael Fassbender is a fine example of an actor. He just can not phone in a performance. He was so good in this! It is a beautiful movie though, and excellently shot. They do a fine job of making New Zealand seem both familiar and alien at the same time.

7.5-8/10 for me.

Is it a slow burner

Damn, you were fast on that reply!

Yes and no. The story starts with a bit of a hiccup, then I think you get about half an hour of them milling around, fixing the ship up before they go planetside.

Will have to watch Prometheus again I think

The Ernie reply came before your review.
It's so confusing in here sometimes ;)
Timestamps I think.

(or more like I deleted the original post and reposted with the tag for COYBL25.....it took me seconds to do, but Ernie was on the reply button like lightning!! I could do some back-end forum jiggery pokery to fix it, but it is far too much work and I would likely break something and shutdown the forum)

He is a really good actor. One of his best roles was in 'Shame' alongside Carey Mulligan (another actor/actress who is just so good).

Alien Covenant: a decent film - much better than Prometheus, but suffers from pacing issues. Visually, it is stunning - did I see some Milford Sound shots in there.

Minus The Martian, I really think Ridley Scott hasn't made a great movie in aggeeeesssss (Gladiator good)

The Colony (also known as Colonia) (2015) - Drama/Thriller

'A determined stewardess (Emma Watson) tries to rescue her boyfriend (Daniel Brühl) when he becomes a prisoner during a military coup in Chile in 1973.
Lena and Daniel, a young couple become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by Pinochet's secret police and Lena tracks him to a sealed off area in the South of the country, called Colonia Dignidad. The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by lay preacher Paul Schäfer but, in fact, is a place nobody ever escaped from. Lena decides to join the cult in order to find Daniel. Based on true events.'

Mixed reviews but, I thought it was a really good film.

Thanks going straight from the match on Saturday.

Really looking forward to it.
