Last Film You Watched

Watched Eddie the Eagle with my daughters earlier. Got to say it was an excellent family film. Further more i always saw Eddie the Eagle as a bit of a novelty/joke sportsman. After reading up on him, how wrong i was. The man was inspirational in courage/determination and drive. He should really be regarded in higher esteem in this country.
Funny thing is. Eddie was considered a joke in this county.
I was working with a few German lads last year and the conversation got on to sports and the Olympics.
They all know who Eddie is. I was waiting for the usual mocking. Far from it, he's talked about with affection, and as one of them said "have you ever stood at the top of a ski jump? Your knees tremble. It takes amazing courage to even get up there, never mind throw yourself off the end"!!!

The Pursuit of Happyness - Pursuit of Hammyness, more like, no wonder Thandie Newton legs it halfway through.

Been a long time since I've started watching a film and had to turn it off in disgust. No wonder it was elected to the Conservative Hall of Fame (or whatever) - 2/10 for the 'Murcan Dream' fairytale.

Watched Finding Dory this morning. Rubbish. Worst pixar film since the execrable WallE.

Mushy sentimental crap wrapped up in a vastly over-long series of unfortunate capers, dull characters, no subtext or humour that you come to expect with Disney/Pixar these days, and I couldn't wait to get out of there in the end. Turgid.

0/5.

hardly watched any films in the 6 months since moving home, but we've now managed 3 in the last week, and unintentionally they all had the same theme: a man fearful of losing his mind.

Enemy 3/10 - promising but turned out stupid crap...don't waste your time.

Angel Heart 6/10 - engaging turn from Mickey Rourke, daft story but entertaining enough.

Take Shelter 7/10 - acting masterclass from General Zod, excellent story ruined a little by the jarring final scene, and also the unsympathetic wife character who was actually written as sympathetic but the actress just couldn't pull it off.

I adore that film - but cannot agree with that - The final scene is perfect for me, and makes the film - and his wife is Jessica Chastain, who I won't have a bad word spoken against :)

Just come back from seeing 'The Girl on the Train'. Very disappointing. For a mystery film it doesn't grip you enough. Preferred Gone Girl which has some similarities. Any suggestions for a recent mystery film better than these two?

In all, the film is summed up rather well by someone I went with - Should have been a 3 part ITV drama.
Went to see that last night awful slow to get going not to bad nothing to rave about tho

i liked it as a psychological drama and after the tense bunker scene i thought he was redeemed quite beautifully....realistic too. Adding the actual end-of-the-world scenario seemed pure daft and far-fetched...just jarring...much like the raining frogs from Magnolia. Chastain i just can't abide her, she's naturally very unsympathetic and is unable to act her way out of it.

...all just my opinion of course, i think we agree the film was otherwise pretty good.
