Last Film You Watched

I watched "The Rip" on netflix. This screenplay/plot had a lot of potential and overall the film was decent. The concept was great. But the screenplay could have been a lot more subtle. The concept had all the potential of a Glengarry Glen Ross type of film (in parts) which could have erred more towards a cerebral who-done-it set up by good dialogue rather than a shoot-em-up cops/robbers gun flick (though the plot require some good shooting/action scenes, which were well done). The major issue for me was that the film could have ended about 15 minutes earlier with a quick wrap-up, and not the "exciting" explosive bang-bang vengance-meted-out Hollywood ending. But Affleck and Damon are great in it. I enjoyed it for overall.

Watched this last night, pretty entertaining, though you can mostly tell which bits have been added to the true parts

That's a very Hollywood centric view of things, there is some brilliant non Hollywood films these days which are a lot more accessible than they used to be. Not just foreign language films, but british too with directors such as Lynne Ramsey (who Scorsese says is the best living film maker today) and Andrea Arnold making films with big actors like no one else. A lot of the bigger actors may be a bit more reserved today and that's fine, and a lot of them are British or Irish

You have filmmakers/actors risking their lives just to put a film together in places like Iran. Most of the Iranian director and actors for example, banned from the country or under house arrest so they filming these films in secret and sneaking themselves, the equipment etc in and out of the country

like all art forms, you have to move the slop out the way and there is loads of stuff. You wouldn't judge music on the tiktok charts so no need to judge films on comic book films
I hadn't considered for one moment that Bollywood and other centres for creative cinema could have the possibility of their own respective versions of nic coppola.

I was a lot happier before you introduced me to this wider cinemascape. There is so much evil in the world.

Aha, Bollywood probably does but others don't

What is your favourite film mate.
Hmm tough question. A lot of films I really enjoyed at the time I doubt I’d like so much now.

I’ll maybe say trainspotting but it’s largely based on memories from the time.

If the Bradshaw wannabes or Marvel scruffs on here have an issue with that, I’ll happily knock youse all out on a roundabout of your choice.

The Zone of Interest.

It was on Channel 4 last night, so will be repeated.

German language with subs, a different view on Auschwitz.

The film follows the day to day life of the camp commandant, Rudolph Hoss and his family, as they live a bucolic life in the rambling house and gardens, boarded by the camp walls.

The family go about their daily routine, to a back drop of gunshots, screaming, dogs barking, the rumbling of the furnaces, which are constantly on and the belch of smoke from the chimneys, that mean they can hardly ever open their window.

The film is full of symbolism and interpretation and although you see nothing of the interior of the camp, there’s no mistaking what is going on next door to the house.

A very powerful film and you can see why it won many awards.
