@jaycee this is good, a proper film : Only the Animals ( on Netflix)

I won’t even try to explain it, as it wouldn’t make sense, but it’s set in rural France and centres around five people whose lives become interlocked by the disappearance of a woman on a snowbound road.

Shades of Fargo, a bit of Hitchcock and a really clever film, with faultless acting.

I watched this the other night and was going to post it on here. Loved it.

Been thinking of giving it a watch may do tonight while bellends set off fireworks

Escape Room

6 apparently unconnected strangers receive invites to participate in an escape room with a $10,000 prize. Predictably it turns out they all have a connection and the escape room is numerous rooms and rather deadly. Familiar territory but fairly well put together. Enjoyed it and it was fairly short.

The Midnight Sky

George Clooney, quite possibly the last man alive on the surface of a fast dying Earth, sat in a Polar Station / Lab trying to make contact with the one remaining space ship returning from missions to find a habitable world. Meanwhile the crew of the ship face their own challenges while being unaware of how bad things are on Earth.

Part of the trouble is the crew is entirely reasonable, well balanced and intelligent individuals working brilliantly as a team who calmly get on with what's needs to be done....entirely accurate I'd imagine for an astronaut crew but it makes things a little bland from a storytelling point of view for huge parts of the film and when things go wrong it's like it's just slotted in to use FX as cover for a lack interesting characters.

Clooney's trials and tribulations have little more drama and is definitely the more interesting side of the story. By the numbers for a lot of it but fairly well done.

Dragged a bit for me and the two stories didn't quite blend until they were smashed together in ropey and mawkish fashion.

Watched A Christmas Gift from Bob - a very watchable family film for this time of year.

Also re-watched all 3 versions of Black Christmas over the past week. Predictably, the original is still the best by a country mile, but I had no major objections to sitting through the other two again, and it's nice that all 3 are around the 90-minute mark.

Sounds right up my street. Love the Coens and world cinema, especially French stuff.
