Last Film You Watched

Trying to put together a list of 5-6 movies for Halloween. It's a Saturday this year so planning on taking advantage of it by sitting on my hoop watching TV.

Looking for 4-5 essential horrors with maybe a light-hearted Halloween-themed film mixed in.

So far, i'm looking at Halloween (original), Black Christmas (original) and The Witch. Any solid recommendations? Really difficult to narrow it down.

Sinister is one of the best horrors of recent times ( imo )

How about the classic Ghost Busters as the light hearted one ?

Not Halloween-themed, but a nice and somewhat lighthearted (funny) horror film I can easily recommend is ‘Housebound’.

Another one is ‘Summer of 84’ on Netflix. Great film.

Happy Death Day (1 and/or 2), Tucker and Dale, Dead Snow (Dod Sno).

Seen a few films at home and the cinema recently.

Bill and Ted Face The Music: I actually really enjoyed this. Much better than I was expecting given all the mixed reviews. Not as good as the first two, but a perfectly decent fun film imo. 6.9/10.

Anna vs The Apocalypse: A zombie-horror musical. When I first saw the cover I thought it was going to be Anna Kendrick in the main role, kind of an American 'Pitch Perfect' style Shaun of The Dead. Instead it was a british musical, without the comedy, but definitely inspired by SotD (some very Edgar Wright sound/editing/transitions). Not bad, some of the music is quite good, but avoid if you don't like musicals. 6/10

James vs His Future Self: a young scientist who neglects his friends and family in pursuit of science is about to discover time travel when an old(ish) man from the future appears and tries to stop him. 7/10.

There was another one, but forgot what it is now.

Also I think I already mentioned Tenet. Really like it. Defo going to see again when it comes on VoD.

Light hearted?

Why Tucker & Dale of course!

I tried to like Sinister but just couldn't in the end. I like the concept and think there are great genuinely creepy moments but was so let down by the final act.

Ghosbusters is a great shout tho!

I just thought Ethan Hawke was so perfectly cast for the role in Sinister and the slant on the Bogeyman was so uniquely original.

Add to that the fact is virtually CGI free, relies almost solely on suspense, the scratchy music and the tiny millisecond glimpses you get of Mr Boogey every now and again. Then you have Hawkes decent into almost Shining like madness and you’ve got one hell of a creepy film.

The only thing that let it down for me, was Ethan Hawkes wife, as her character was weak and out of place with the rest of the film.

Yeah it has all the ingredients that I usually look for (plus I love Ethan Hawke) but just didn't do it for me. In terms of modern horror, Hereditary and Don't Breathe will take some beating.

I thought the end scene in Hereditary, was one of the most unintentionally funny things I’ve ever seen. The whole cinema was laughing when I saw it.

Don’t Breathe is a good shout though.

Prince of Darkness, another John Carpenter film.

Watched 5 minutes of Waves on Saturday night then turned it off with it being a bit too heavy and watched Hubie Halloween instead lol Tried Waves again tonight and it's a very good film 9/10.

Watch last year's 5 2 derby game at the pit on a loop. I was never as scared in my life watching that

Sinister

Been meaning to watch this for years, and today I randomly found it on Netflix, so why not? Gotta say it's one of the scariest films I've seen. A big part of the reason for that was how realistic it seemed for a big chunk of the film. At times some supernatural stuff happened, which made it a lot less scary, but it always picked back up again. All in all a really good horror film. I'll give it a 9/10 from creep factor alone.

Also kinda nostalgic watching a Ethan Hawke movie again. Training Day was the first DVD I ever bought and I haven't seen much of him since. According to my letterboxd this is my fourth movie of his, and they've all been decent or great.(The Magnificent Seven, Daybreakers, Training Day and now Sinister).
