Night Clerk ( on Netflix )

A good film, that could’ve been so much better.

Tye Sheridan is standout in the lead and Ana de Armas proves that she’s a very capable actress as well as being drop dead ( Joi in Blade Runner 2049 )

A young man with Aspergers works as the night receptionist at a hotel, he also places cameras in guests rooms, so he can learn body language and speech from them unobserved. ( he’s genuinely not a perv ! )

He witnesses a murder on camera and due to him being odd and different, immediately falls under suspicion.

Tye Sheridan is brilliant as the young lad, but the film feels rushed, particularly the ending and it could’ve done with another 30 mins to develop some parts of the film.

Still worth a watch.

Star Wars A New Hope on the big screen.

Watching it again what struck me is how learning about the Force is an entirely new concept for Luke. He shows absolutely no signs of having it, and the two instances, one where he trains with the 'remotes' and landing the death star shot could both be purely luck. Obi Wans voice in his head now just feels like Luke remembering his words. It feels from this that anyone could actually learn to use the Force, which I think is a much better point. The design of the film, equally Production, Costume, Sound and Score are still stunning though. The humour still works after all these years, but the some of the inserted shots don't quite work.

Rewatched Inception (still very good, one of my favourite movies for sure) and was reminded of an older film called eXistenZ (1999), similar reality-bending story, which has not held up well. Jude Law is pretty terrible in it. It has unique sci-fi and is grossly fascinating at imes but its relatively high rating of 74% on RT is a surprise. It just doesn't seem very good to me, even if I consider standards 11 years before Inception.

Watched Color Out of Space. Didn't think it was quite as much fun as the 2 films Richard Stanley made 25-30 years ago, and maybe it was wrong to expect so much after Stanley's decades of absence, but it was generally good stuff. Was waiting for Nic Cage to get up to speed and do his thing, which eventually came in the moments when he was
(i) binning the tomatoes, and (ii) failing to start the car.
Anyway, it made for a good double bill with The Vast of Night.

Watched that Sherlock Holmes film Game of Shadows last night ..........for about the hundredth time. Know ever word by heart........we all do. But it's a compelling film. No doubt will probably watch it again if nothing else was on.
It's nonsense.........But it's good viewing.....
Also watched Snatch recently. Also know this film by heart.
Notice the common demonater from both films..........must watch Lock..Stock and 4 smoking barrels again.......

I liked eXistenZ back in the day, although I haven't seen it since - then again, I like most of Cronenberg's films. Hadn't really thought about connecting it to Inception, so that's interesting. I do remember Jude Law being terrible in it - but I don't think I've ever seen him give a performance that was anything but.
