Last Film You Watched

Has JCVD actually been in a decent film?

I suppose if you really into that kind of thing Bloodsport and Kickboxer might count. Universal Soldier is OK but not as good as I remember.

I love Bloodsport but it's entirely because of child/teen nostalgia. It's absolutely an objectively bad film....fight scenes still stand up though and great quotes.

"OK USA!"
"You break my record...now I break you, like I break your friend!"
"Very good. But brick not hit back!"

A reminder of the glory days of little corner shops with VHS rental sections where the owner really didn't care whether you was 8 or 18 when it came to taking your money for a rental.

Watched a film length documentary on Thai women getting introduced to Danish men on bbc4 today. Was cringe, sad and also hopeful for one of the sons. Interesting soundtrack too.

Sci-fi binge continues...
Rewatched Edge of Tomorrow since it first came out and its a much better sci-fi/action movie than I remember. 'Groundhog day' stories have been done a lot in sci-fi movies and TV so its not super unique but I think its also one of the best alien invasion movies out there.
Similarly, also rewatched Pacific Rim. Another one better than I remember. Always think it would have made for a great game.

On an obscure list of sci fi movies I found one called The Girl with All the Gifts. Its a British zombie movie that does things quite different but clearly heavily inspired by The Last of Us (video game). Young girl is infected that might have the potential secrets for a vaccine, but
unlike Ellie, she can lose control to the infection and is dangerous. The zombie infection in this is probably the smartest in any zombie-fiction. The symbiosis between fungus and human isn't just for the fungus to survive, it seems like part of an intelligent strategy to use human empathy to manipulate humans and kill them more smartly.
Its quite a different take on dumb zombies and so if you like zombie flicks, give it a try.

This on Netflix, mainly just the one actor in it,fella wakes up in a car wreck badly injured, has no memory of how or why he is there, its not a bad film, though you do kind of guess the outcome before the end

I really enjoyed Edge Of Tomorrow. I seem to remember it getting a lukewarm reception but a quick check on RottenTomatos shows positive reactions pretty much all round.

Probably getting mixed up with Oblivion though I reckon that got a bit of an unfair kicking. Enjoyed that as well.

Girl With All The Gifts is a cracker as well and like you say is fairly unique as far as zombie films go.

Robocop

oh my god that film is so gooooood, and not 2010’s remake you millennial tits.

years since I’ve seen it. Watching number 2 tomorrow, can’t remember nothing about that film

Got the recent remaster from Arrow films a week or two back when they were having a sale. Not got round to it yet but it looks great with loads of extras including the alternate cuts and dubs used for various TV broadcasts.

There's apparently a version that's cut so Boddiker drives around the toxic melting Emil rather than splatting him over the windscreen and a series of increasingly bizarre dubs that leave the dialogue making no sense whatsoever.

I’m glad they went the way they did
