Sounds like something I could possibly hate. I like sci-fi, but not abstract artsy sci-fi that doesn't have a story at its core.

Tried to watch Hard To Be A God yesterday after work but fell asleep after 30 mins or so....

To be fair I'd been in work and was absolutely knackered so I might give it another go on my next day off. Even then I'm not entirely confident I'll last the 3 hours or so.....

Saw the trailers several times last summer, and always thought it looked a bit naff. Considering you can make pretty much any film look amazing with a good trailer, that was pretty damnng for me.

I love sci-fi. Couple of recommendations if you haven't seen them yet

• Dark City was mentioned there, I second that
• Coherence is a brilliant low budget time paradox sci fi
• Resolution and the Endless, independently made sci fi films linked to each other though not necessarily sequels
• 12 Monkeys with Bruce Willis is a classic
• I'm sure you've seen Alien, but watch it again
• Metropolis, the grandmother of all sci fi. Silent film but brilliantly conceived with a fantastic soundtrack.

There's loads more, but that's off the top of my head

There's also a tv series which I thought was very decent. Sort of a reboot, with more going on in the main protagonists own time.

Might give it a watch, I have seen it during my seemingly never ending 'Netflix scroll' but have always passed as I love the film.

Watched Coherence last night and thought it was good but

ended on a cliffhanger that I'm not a huge fan of. Would have liked it to be a bit more conclusive.

Also watched Captive State which is a bit like War of the Worlds if the aliens for some reason wanted to keep humanity alive but not enslaved or farmed or anything just... captive. It doesn't really make sense. Still its not a bad story.

One of my favourite Scorsese films. Every actor fits their roles so well. Jack Nicholson steals the show though.
