Last Film You Watched

I watched 'the 12th man's the other night, a Norwegian film with subtitles. A very good watch.

O I've just sent off for a copy of this, about the resistance in WW2 In Norway?
Someone mentioned it to me after seeing Black Book, a Dutch resistance based film.

Maybe I'm getting old but I really rather enjoyed this. Something of a less trivial Crocodile Dundee as Islander Brian Cox has to adjust to living in San Francisco with his estranged family. NEA ...

Barbarella (1968) on Amazon Prime. Never seen it before.... Was some powerful acid film makers were hammering back then, as it's absolutely atrocious as a movie. Fonda looked amazing but couldn't act to save her life.

Watched a couple last night

The True History of the Kelly Gang - An intriguingly ramshackle and updated version of the Ned Kelly story (Directed by Justin Kurzel who also did the excellent Snowtown)

Color Out of Space - Entertainingly daft adaptation of a H.P Lovecraft story - Nicholas Cage manages to act in a measured way until the final third when he goes typically bonkers. Some excellent body horror moments and pretty striking visual effects.

Watched a star is born last night.

It's an enjoyable film for what it is but my biggest gripe is that they don't actually follow their own plot.

The old riding star Vs fading star doesn't really play out. Essentially Bradley cooper is an alcoholic, very little emphasis put on him being a faded musician so all that he is in the film is a problem because of his drinking. Even the drugs aren't really referenced other than one line.

Very toned down film for what it should have been. Seems more of a platform for lady gaga just to sing a lot and be an actress for future roles.

I adore that film - Not ashamed to say it made me cry up a storm

It's enjoyable yeah. Just that bothered me a little , given the run time you could have focused a little more on cooper declining as a musician. Think there is one scene of that and it's not even really weighted to emphasise it. Perhaps have him playing bar room gigs towards the end , being ignored by fans rushing to ally etc.

Just throw that in. Otherwise it's just rising singer and alcoholic, if you get what I mean

I'm not sure that he is a faded musician really - I know he get eclipsed by Ally and feels threatened by his popularity, but it's more about his body and his addictions letting him down rather than becoming a nobody.

Watched it on the pictures. Missus loves it and couldn’t stop crying. I just managed to hold off for that one, but inexplicably I was in bits at the end of sodding LaLa Land, furiously blinking the tears away before the lights came on, with her laughing at me.
