Cracking little scfi on Netflix - Code 8.

Trailer doesn’t do it justice.

Set in Canada in the near future, a percentage of the population are born with “ powers “ that leads them to become discriminated against and ostracised, leading some to turn to crime.

Influnces include, Dredd ( Karl Urban version ) Robocop and to a lesser extent X Men.

Well put together, entertaining and thought provoking.
I liked it, but
The whole reason the mother died wasn't because of people with powers, or Psyke, or crime or anything sci-fi really. She died because she was poor and sick in America which is a pretty irritating thing to witness for people living with an actual 1st world healthcare system in the present, let alone future.

My choice tonight. One I have and will watch multiple times. It is a wonderful story about football that I thoroughly recommend called Everton, Howard's Way.

The missus chose to call a friend but me and the lads enjoyed, as always ;)

Bit of a mixed bag I thought, the battle scenes are visceral, brutal and shocking and the performances are very good, particularly Hugo Weaving as the father. It's a remarkable story, but for the most part a very conventional old fashioned piece of cinema, all rich cinematography, romance, duty and patriotism, and I'm not sure the two styles sit well together, compared to something like 'The Thin Red Line' for example. Its good, but not brilliant.

Oddly enough Mrs D really enjoyed it more than I thought she would, my favourite comment:

'That things horrible!'
'What thing?'
'That! The fire thing!'
'You mean the flame thrower?'
'Yes! Its a horrible weapon!!'
'.... well.... yes.... its a flame thrower.'
'I know, but I didn't know they were that awful!'

Watched Shutter Island last night on the insistence of my daughter ... it’s part of me educating her on good films, my preference for last night was Quadrophenia but I gave in to her choice, not really my cup of tea though and saw through the plot twist after about twenty minutes.
I’m insisting tonight is my choice so we shall be watching The Count of Monte Cristo

I have seen all their stuff, very good. Resolution is part of the same universe as the Endless, two of the lads they find in a caravan (I think?) are the main characters in Resolution. Would really recommend giving it a go. Spring is absolutely nuts, but decent. Lovely setting and well acted

Definitely a duo to look out for those two. Will check Spring out. They seem to be the two strongest from the VHS collection.

Watched Shutter Island all the way through and still didn't understand the plot, if I watch against I may put it on slomo. Quadrophenia btw is excellent.
