Last Film You Watched

Got around to my second viewing of The Standoff at Sparrow Creek and absolutely loved it once again! Fantastic and incredibly tense, low-budget indie film which is clearly heavily inspired by the gruff of Reservoir Dogs.

Discovering that my favourite films all/largely take place within one location or one day. Think its cause they rely much heavier on dialogue which really builds characters.

Rise of Skywalker.

An entertaining way to kill a couple of hours, despite its flaws it's easily the best film of the sequel trilogy (not a high bar tbh).

The extra 'making of' documentary that came with the blu-ray was a interesting watch too.

Watched Shutter Island last night on the insistence of my daughter ... it’s part of me educating her on good films, my preference for last night was Quadrophenia but I gave in to her choice, not really my cup of tea though and saw through the plot twist after about twenty minutes.
I’m insisting tonight is my choice so we shall be watching The Count of Monte Cristo
Watched Shutter Island all the way through and still didn't understand the plot, if I watch against I may put it on slomo. Quadrophenia btw is excellent.

Think this was on tv recently? Defo watched it a week or so ago for the first time since the cinema. It really grows on you imo, and it's a film that I think rewards repeat viewings, seeing all the things that point towards the plot twist at the end. Makes more sense second time round too!

Glad you liked it! I enjoyed it too, saw it a couple times at the cinema. Although I liked 7 & 8, so.... :o :D

Bit of a mixed bag I thought, the battle scenes are visceral, brutal and shocking and the performances are very good, particularly Hugo Weaving as the father. It's a remarkable story, but for the most part a very conventional old fashioned piece of cinema, all rich cinematography, romance, duty and patriotism, and I'm not sure the two styles sit well together, compared to something like 'The Thin Red Line' for example. Its good, but not brilliant.

Oddly enough Mrs D really enjoyed it more than I thought she would, my favourite comment:

'That things horrible!'
'What thing?'
'That! The fire thing!'
'You mean the flame thrower?'
'Yes! Its a horrible weapon!!'
'.... well.... yes.... its a flame thrower.'
'I know, but I didn't know they were that awful!'

:Blink::Blink::Blink:
I think the romance and warmth actually make the visceral battle scenes all the more shocking. A really great film, bar one or two scenes. The action film like but where a soldier uses a dead body as a shield took me out of it a bit.

Last Jedi for me, tho' they're all merely a tad above average. A smidgen more entertaining than the prequels, but galaxies away from the excellence of the originals.

Nowt wrong with that mate. Just personal preference. Personally I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about episode seven anymore. Its watchable and has enough entertaining moments to keep me interested, It's only episode 8 that I dislike at this point. ;)
