Going to watch Knives Out tonight and Star Wars tomorrow fully aware only one will be worth the fiver ticket price.

Watched Sweet Virginia.

It wasn’t long enough to fully develop the characters, could’ve done with another 30 mins or so.

Nice little film noir though and Christopher Abbott excellent as the psycho - a role he normally never plays.

Jon Bernthal is rapidly becoming one of my favourite actors.

Ps - it would make an excellent book, as you could really get into the characters.

Knives Out (2019)

I’d probably give this almost an 8/10. Was really funny in parts, ensemble cast all played their part and lead girl is sexy as hell. About halfway through I was thinking it’s been pretty boring as it’s a different take on a ’who done it?’ but then has a nice finale. Think it’d be quite a divisive film though.

It has been out in the States, but I’ve stayed away from the reviews as I want to go and see it “ fresh “.

Probs be my first film in the New Year.

Yeh I’ll definitely go see it. Trailer disappointed me a little though; referenced the directors name and credited him for Ragnarok and Hunt for the Wilderpeople - no mention of our beloved vampire documentary!

The Rise of Skywalker. Despite a can of Red Bull I wasn't at my sprightliest for the midnight screening. More reflection needed, although I'm sure many will know what they think straight off; I can say that it feels a lot like another remix/compilation. I'm a big Star Wars fan bore, so it's pretty much a given that I'll like any new film in the series - at least to an extent. See again, I will.

What did strike me was how, if you take the three trilogies, Revenge of the SIth [ducks for cover] is probably the strongest final film out of all of them, but obviously came at a time when Lucas-bashing had reached fever pitch. I think George would have had some interesting ideas as to how The Rise of Skywalker might have played out, but instead it's another case of someone else playing with the toys Lucas created without adding much input of their own. But like I say, I will watch it again (probably in IMAX or similar).
