Last Film You Watched

The Endless

An intriguing little sci-fi brain bender from the makers of 'Spring' (a belting indie horror)

Watched that last week - good fun.

Finally got to watch The Shape of Water yesterday, which I thought was very well acted, beautifully shot, and had some really nice references to early cinema, but, on the whole, was quite a dull story with nothing of the emotional and allegorical resonance of del Toro's less mainstream work.

I think you hit the nail on the head, with it being beautifully filmed.

It was more about the visuals over the substance.

I really enjoyed it though.

Interesting film this week on Talking Pictures, could almost be an alternative reality :

Rooney - the life of Rooney, a Gaelic sportsman at the weekend, and a Dublin rubbish collector at night.

Book was terrific - I grew up close by the area where this all took place.

Hugh Glass Revenant Memorial link

The movie probably moved a bit too slow in spots for some people. I really enjoyed it though. Thought the fight scene at the end while brutal, was probably more like a fight to the death would actually look than you usually see. Fingers flying off and everything.

Bit gutted seeing some of the posts regarding sicario2 here.

Yet to see it, but hoping to catch it this week.

Thought the first one was absolutely superb. Kind of genre defining.

Not once did I think it needed a sequel though

I loved the first one mate, but the sequel is shockingly bad, all over the place and generally a mess.

They`ve changed directors, fella who did Gomorrah has done the new one and it shows.

They`ve left it open for a number 3 too.

Losing Blunt made a big difference, she was the connection between the audience and bewildering events occurring. I often wonder with these sequels how much of talent who stay involved do so purely through some contractual obligation. As you say the first one was superb, and it is a bit odd seeing a sequel made from that film, it certainly didn't have a franchise feel
