Last Film You Watched

12 Strong - Watchable, but I think relation to the true story is probably just the wider events as there are just to many clichés here, not to mention a scattering of COD sound effects.

5.5/10

The Lobster.

Knew nothing about it and was pleasantly surprised. Very quirky and quite funny, in a dark way.

Haha I watched that on the weekend and absolutely felt like Colin Farrell at the end wanting to stab my own eyes out.

Awful film. Lea Seydoux is great in anything but this film had so little point it wasnt worth even her.

In a word: Pointless.

It's a solid enough piece of film making, although the editing is a bit cack handed. The performances are mostly fine, Kidman is a bit anonymous aside from one scene. Moving it from 70's Argentina to post 9/11 L.A. loses all of the political intrigue and context, and replaces it with a generic counter terrorism sub-plot which then goes completely unexplored anyway. The title of the film is a key theme in the original, a point which seems to have completely escaped this film maker and one of the most technically jaw dropping scenes in modern cinema in the original is replaced with a barely registering facsimile. The most infuriating thing about it though is that Julia Roberts is utterly brilliant, which kind of makes it worth watching, even though it isn't.

Go straight for the Argentinian version, it's a belter.

Dead right. Totally different film. I watched that remake and it was only when it was half way through that I realised it was a remake!

Standard Hollywood remake then...

Jumanji (2017)
I never saw the original, it never really appealed to me, so I watched this without much enthusiasm initially. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised and I did enjoy it.

Con Air
Nothing on the TV on Sunday night, so put this on and it is still a fine example of 1990s action movies. Very corny in parts, mainly thanks to Nicolas Cage's 'acting', but it worked. Unlike action movies today, it is self aware, but still serious enough to not be a complete joke. Compare that to modern day action/superhero movies, where they make jokes and point out plot holes and then pretty much apologise for it on-screen, very lazy.

Worst Alien film out of the lot Neil.

Should be consigned to the bin forever.

If I hadn`t paid over a tenner to go and see it, I`d have walked out.

i dont understand why they cant just write a half decent character, the bloke on the main ships 'thing' was that he wore a cowboy hat...quirky
