The Shallows...a crap movie that jumped the shark (literally)
Watched Kes the other evening at the BFI As @atrottel can attest, I'm not a huge fan of Ken Loach, so it didn't resonate at all. Just seemed to be 'life is [Poor language removed], will always remain [Poor language removed], so resign yourself to it being [Poor language removed]'.
Can't wait for that.I guess I don't regard life as being predetermined from birth so it didn't resonate, but that's probably a discussion for another thread.
What about the "FA Cup 5th Round tie between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur with a slightly aging Bobby Charlton wearing No.9"? One of the funniest scenes ever committed to film.Watched Kes the other evening at the BFI As @atrottel can attest, I'm not a huge fan of Ken Loach, so it didn't resonate at all. Went to see Ready Player One at the cinema. I though it was really good. Visually superb. I especially enjoyed The Shining section in the middle. Anybody else seen this yet?
Went last night to see it.
Great fun and as you say the Shining bit was really good.
There was that much going on, that it was hard to keep up at times.
Deffo helps if you`re into 80`s films and music![]()
have you read the book? reading it at the moment...also entertaining...not seen film yet, almost dissapointed it wasnt a one off tv show as the book covers so much...
Dreaded the prospect of this as the trailer looked awful.Went to see Ready Player One at the cinema. I though it was really good. Visually superb. I especially enjoyed The Shining section in the middle. Anybody else seen this yet?

Dead right. Totally different film. I watched that remake and it was only when it was half way through that I realised it was a remake!View attachment 45798
In a word: Pointless.
It's a solid enough piece of film making, although the editing is a bit cack handed. The performances are mostly fine, Kidman is a bit anonymous aside from one scene. Moving it from 70's Argentina to post 9/11 L.A. loses all of the political intrigue and context, and replaces it with a generic counter terrorism sub-plot which then goes completely unexplored anyway. The title of the film is a key theme in the original, a point which seems to have completely escaped this film maker and one of the most technically jaw dropping scenes in modern cinema in the original is replaced with a barely registering facsimile. The most infuriating thing about it though is that Julia Roberts is utterly brilliant, which kind of makes it worth watching, even though it isn't.
Go straight for the Argentinian version, it's a belter.
