Last Film You Watched

Watched three films on the plane home today.

Kong - Entertaining enough. A 7/10 probably.

The Dark Tower - Again, entertaining enough. Another 7.

Drive - First time I've watched it, I don't know why it has such a cult following but it was decent enough. 7.5.

You lied about voting for an independent in June, you are lying again.

rewatched The Terminator (1984).

I remember the first time I saw this I was left utterly breathless, and it still holds up and an absolute masterpiece.
Everything about this film is perfect - the closed loop plot, the casting, the pacing and direction. Flawless.

Stuff that elevates the film-

everyone is smart in this film. The Terminator is ruthlessly systematic an efficient (eg goes through files, takes advantage of a lucky answerphone call, impersonates Sarah's mother on the phone), Reese has to be one step ahead in indentifying both Sarah and the Terminator. Sarah "isn't stupid, y'know". Even the cops are smart; eg Traxler using the press to get Sarah to call them.

The love story.. "John gave me a picture of you.. you seemed a little sad, I always used to wonder what you were thinking." Turns out they were thinking about each other. It didn't need to be in the film, but that it is is simply brilliant writing.

Everything is shot from low angles, the quick editing, the soundtrack (not just the main theme, but the chase music is brilliant). The bleak vision of humanity in 2029 sets the stakes.

Hollywood, being what is is, just doesn't make 'em like this any more. 10/10.

Blade Runner 2049 really was fantastic.

Contrary to what @Bryan says, almost everything about it was great, ESPECIALLY the soundtrack and effects. It successfully felt like the original, while also adding to it.

9.5/10 for me (already watched it twice, once on my lonesome, then again with the wife. Incidentally, she thought it was very good as well!)

Spot on.

It`s a classic in the making, despite what that numpty @Bryan says.

I`ve seen it by myself too and I genuinely could have sat there for six hours, rather than three.

I`ll be getting the DVD the day it comes out.
