Landon Donovan

That's a bit weird. I doubt the MLS would sell.
That is the answer to anyone who asks "if he is so good why is he playing in the MLS". He is in contract with MLS until sometime in 2011. MLS does not want to lose their best player and biggest domestic star so they let him go out on loan until our season start but they make his transfer fee so high that no team can take the gamble.

MLS wants to make some money off of him while they still can so they might drop their price because they know that in 2011 they won't get a dime.

That is unless I am somehow mistaken on what his contract entails.

They only way they sell him is it's close to contract time and he says that he isn't re-upping. They'll need to make something off of him.

That or someone pays MLS 10M for him.

Howard reckons:

“From playing with him in the USA team I know he is a tremendous player. He’d be a good addition to any team and particularly this team. He is a star, he really is.

“Donovan can bring several strengths to the team. He can play wide right and underneath the strikers, he has got good pace with the ball and he runs and runs all day long!

“He’s got a fantastic touch with both his left and right. He can cross the ball well and shoot the ball well - he has got a bunch of attributes that mean he’ll do well in the Premier League.”

Really hope we tie this one up but i don't think it will be our only loan. From what i read in the Echo, Moyes is hoping for 3 or 4.

Wonder if Bily can tell us what prompted that.

According to ESPN writer Ives' twitter: LA Galaxy to make "major player announcement" on Wednesday. Bruce Arena and Landon Donovan to attend. I wonder what that might be. Hmmmmm

This could be what we are waiting for.... or could be more heartbreak

In the back of my mind I was thinking that b/c we announced that we wanted him then someone (like Spurs) would outbid us on the loan deal just out of spite. However I hear he wants to play for us which is a good thing.

Although I do like Beckerman, I think the Premier League would be a bit too fast for him.

Don't know who I'd compare Donovan to in the league. Gonna have to think about that one.

Beckerman isn't ready for the prem yet. I would say a league like Scotland would suit him but inexplictably Yanks do better in England than they do in Scotland. Holland would be a decent choise and they could coach up his limited passing ability.
