No better time for us to challenge the top 4... Utd and Arsenal in transition too, we have to take this opportunity

This is with the assumption we bring in a quality centre forward, a centre back and a right back for cover whilst keeping hold of key players like Gana Gueye? Even with those additions I still think we would struggle to break the top 4.

The home form towards the end of the season was promising. The loss to Fulham away? We have to rectify that. The level of inconsistency during the whole season? There was sure signs of improvement towards the end of course. This season is to be able to keep that going and to make it into the top four our away form has to match our home form. I can't see it happening next season.

I agree it is unlikely and those additions you mention are significant including Zouma rather than just any centre back. The thing is the next season will be even tougher as Utd and Chelsea find their feet again. We were 3rd place I believe for the final 10 games so every reason to be optimistic anyway though it will be tough

hopefully lampard rates that zomori more, the board will be happy to cash in on a player who isn't part of the first team you would think

There is no incentive for Chelsea to make an early decision on this but we need to draw a line in the sand with regard to timing and cost, and stick to it.

The last thing we want is this strung out until deadline day and then scrambling and failing to sign an alternative CB with hours left to do it. We could end up with nothing and be badly exposed.

Zouma's own preferences are pivotal in this but I expect his default position would be to say nothing and stay at Chelsea unless he is definitively told he can go / is surplus to requirements.

I imagine if he was strongly in favour of signing with us his agent and Chelsea would be briefing accordingly. That's what happened with Gomes. If the player wants the move and fee is not an obstacle, things get done quickly.

For sure, the managerial situation there has thrown a spanner in the works but either way there is no need for this to be a drawn-out affair once Lampard is formally appointed.

Brands needs to ensure we come out of this ok.

I agree, I really hope we don't let this drag out

Set a price and a deadline from them to make their minds up, if they don't then move on to one of the alternatives we have in mind

I've got a good feeling about this. When he signed on loan he was quite adamant that he wanted to return to play for Chelsea - the sudden change in his attitude towards playing for us makes me thinks something is in place.
