Thought McCarthy did well. I see people on here questioning his commitment to Everton over Ireland but he gets the same stick here in the Irish press for the opposite reason. The lad can't win. We'd miss him if he leaves.

Decent run out for fitness, can't really judge the players individually that much based on it - especially second half which was massively disjointed by all the subs.

Worrying that Kenny didn't get on the pitch and both Holgate and Martina did though, suggests that he won't be featuring much - even from the bench on Thursday

Happy enough with that in general. Some fitness and gelling to come, not sure what all the doom was about Martina, seems tidy enough, mistake for goal notwithstanding.

However, please never play Besic at CB again, he'll cause heart attacks throughout the fan base.

There is no difference between DCL and Niasse, basically the same player other than 1 is English and young.

Said it from end of last season and stick by it if we go into this season with DCL still in the squad and not out on loan something has gone wrong in the window.

..pre-season is so hard to judge, indeed a poor pre-season often results in a decent season and vice versa. I do think we need to manage expectation, top 6 will be an achievement.

He's very sloppy with the ball. There is a laziness in his passing.

First few games for Everton you could see there was something about him. Exciting, tricky, very quick. ' An edge of the seat with the ball ' kind of player.

Right now he's ' Time to check your emails, when he's with the ball ' kind of player.

Besic has the same entertainment value as Yobo for me - he should start every game at CB.
