Klaassen’s future up in the air

Felt a bit sorry for the lad last year.
Looked like he’d had no instruction whatsoever from the Managers.
Looked out of sorts like he felt he didn’t belong.
David De Gea at Man U, Luca Modric at Real, Thiery Henry at Arsenal, all looked gash in their first seasons.

I think there’s a player in him.

"his attitude is boss" it's not really he just doesn't want to leave his 100k a week behind

"deserves another chance" maybe, but when he was starting games early on last season he was absolutely woeful, like not once did I ever look and think oh he could be decent him

Allegedly Marco Silva is good at making people like him, communicating with players, forging a bond, all that.

Time for him to show that. Honestly I'm putting everything down to the manager on this one - up until now. If Davy ever shows up in an Everton shirt competitively again, there will be no excuses. He has to perform.

He looks lost when he comes on, the game just passes him by.

I appreciate that foreign players can struggle with the pace of the Premier League, when they first come, but he just looks out of his depth.

There may be a player in there, but I don`t think the Premier League is the right league for him. It`s just too fast.

That's a good point, not like any of our players were covered in glory. Maybe klassen and even maybe Sandro might be worth giving more time.

Hughes only completed 90 minutes once under Silva (against us as it happens). He only started 3 other games, so it'd be difficult to say he had him doing much to be honest.

Fair point, I’m basing it on my limited viewing on Watford, he alsways stood out as being decent. it was silva that gave him the chance I think.

Thierry Henry scored 26 goals in his first season at Arsenal. I'm not great with numbers, but by my reckoning that's... 26 more than Klaassen.

Sometimes the supposed struggles of players when they come over are massively blown out of proportion. De Gea, for example, would probably have been a hero here in his first season because he was still very, very good. He just wasn't absolutely outstanding, which is what teams looking to win the PL and get to the latter stages of the CL expect. Klaassen, on the other hand, was genuinely below average. Not just 'not quite what I expected for £25m' but 'not really good enough to be in the side even though we're absolutely dreadful'.

For all the times that Sam rained on your parade,
And all the grounds you got in using your name,
You think you broke my heart, oh Dave for goodness sake,
You think I'm crying, on my own well I ain't

Well if you like, the way, you play so much,
Oh Davy you should go and prove yourself,
And if you think, that I'm, still holding on,
Oh Davy you should go and prove yourself.

U ok der lad or what??

Wish I had £1 for everytime I'd read about him getting to a Europa final.

Kinell.. Middlesbrough got to a UEFA /Europa final once too.. hardly a ringing endorsement.

He is crap.

He was captain of one of the biggest and most respected clubs in Europe though. Napoli who are a far better side than us were banging our door down to take him on loan. Not one person at the club word has a bad say about him, in fact everything you do hear is about how dedicated and determined he is.

Unsworth and Allardyce didn't use him because one was a clueless youth coach who relied on his kids and the other is a dinosaur who doesn't like any midfielder who doesn't look to break legs or hoof it. Koeman planned to intergrate him slowly but because of how pear-shaped things went he was out before Davy had settled.

He's a very cultured player and a clear leader of men, at the very least he deserves more respect than what he's been shown so far.

Will Hughes is a good player. Wouldn’t mind him here.

Hughes is certainly a very good 'footballer', I've kept an eye on him for the last 4-5 years (which is why I knew he hadn't played much in the early part of last season).

I can understand the comparison to Klaassen though, in the sense that just being a good footballer isn't necessarily enough in the PL. I'm not sure either of them have the physical attributes to match their technical ones. If you don't 'do' a lot then you have to be very effective at what you do 'do'. From what I saw of Klaassen, i'm not sure he can do that, and I think the reason Hughes never got the big move he was touted for is because teams aren't sure he can either.

His weak, he looks like the guy who is picked last when your playing five a side and only went because his mom made him go.
When he you realise he is the only choice left you don't even acknowledge him, the four of you walk away as he starts to walk towards you.
I still cry at night over that you cruel sod!

Unsure he is crap, just not strong enough for this league. Other than specific teams in Europe we have the fastest, strongest athletes in the Premier League, so it is tough physically. However your cynical , sly put downs are just the stuff comments are made of, so you get my vote!
