….I wouldn’t defend many of decisions that happened during Brands’ tenure as DOF (new contracts for Keane, Holgate etc). I will defend his role as a ‘diplomat’ keeping the disparate sections of the club together. I know he was liked and respected by players and staff at FF, I know that the warring factions on the Board actually liked him. He kept the plates spinning.
I believe Brands kept the madhouse afloat, it’s no coincidence how it’s gone since Benitez forced him out.
i can’t have Thelwell. I judge him on leaving us for virtually 3 windows without bringing in an effective striker, not his slick talk. I know he’s not widely respected at FF. I understood he’s impressed prospective buyers but I’d see it as a real positive if 777 have seen right through him.
Fair play mate, i have a sense you have more background. The opinions are so contrasting given the same context.
Interesting sounds coming out. Ive mixed thoughts, if hes not liked/respected i dont mind, things have been to easy at the club for to long, performance hasnt matched the investment and with any change or raising standards you will upset a few - that me presuming.
Nuts and bolts for me, hes got the economy going, money in and brokered good deals and it seems as if - lets say the oil tanker is starting to turn squad profile wise. Surely hes dealing with the same chaos as Brands so i think if your mitigating on the performance of one you have to be fair with the other.
The striker thing i think hes guilty of being to optimistic on DCL - its an awful situation tbf. TBF he brought in Maupay - it didnt work - and you hear rumblings it was a board decision as opposed to him.
Personally i heard, he only got involved in the latter end of the window in Lampards summer - that Bill and Moshiri were doing the deals up to Garner and Onana - which were Kevs.
