Good piece on the BBC today about Pickford - Lee Dixon wont like this.

Jordan Pickford's place as England number one is, as usual, a source of debate, particularly given Aaron Ramsdale's outstanding form since his move to Arsenal.

One place where this is not a pressing matter for discussion is inside the England camp. Pickford had an outstanding Euros and is deservedly first-choice, as he has been for more than three years.

Southgate works on loyalty and the mantra that Pickford has never let him down. He has, in fact, done more than not let England down. He has kept 20 clean sheets in 43 appearances, has a 76.9% save ratio and - according to Opta stats - has yet to make an error leading to a goal in his England career.

Was just a big shame about how poor England's penalties were in the Euros final. Pickford did everything he could to win the shootout.

It was mate. Its nice to see a positive statement about him for once. I really dont take much notice what pundits say tbh, the 2nd paragraph is the most important to me- no problem in the England camp.

But.. but how can it be possible to omit promoting an ARSENAL player, particularly a goalkeeper to the England team? We in the BBC will not rest until this injustice is corrected and our pundits indeed all pundits should continue to agitate.

Kind of mind blowing given the comedy of errors he made at the club level for a couple years. Though, I do suspect some of this is down to less opportunity to make errors when in an England shirt. Some games he has nothing to do at all.

Not looking for negatives. Looking for reasons. When he was making errors every week for Everton, he was playing for England at the same time and apparently not doing that. Same player, same period, different results.
He wasnt making errors every week. He's improved as keeper and lets hope he keeps improving. He has had two good major international tournaments so must be doing something right.

Blimey! "Making errors every week for Everton". How did we survive relegation or even come close to it?
If you want to choose to ignore the fact that he was an absolute joke for weeks at a time and during that time led the league in mistakes leading to goals, that’s up to you. He’s improved and his mistakes have lessened. Good on him.

Pickford cannot win with some fans and pundits. His first season with us he was player of the year for us and I think players player also.
Goalkeepers always come under scrutiny and Pickford did make some errors and since those errors the scrutiny got out of hand to the extent that he was getting blamed for lots of goals that he had no chance with "should have done better", "He would have saved that" and all kinds of tripe. He came to us with a reputation of playing the ball 50 yds up the pitch to a player but now if a 50 or 60 yd pass doesn't land at the feet of one of our players then fans get on his back. Even the great Nev mainly lumped the ball up field with the hope we would win it. It is getting a bit ridiculous the grief he gets. I wouldn't say he is a great but he certainly is very good.
