Jon moss

Jon Moss' recent performances especially Arsenal vs us - the offside goal the most memorable and his whole catalogue of errors in favour of City vs Burnley last week and now yesterday's game shows that controversy is a permanent theme when Jon Moss is the referee.

As I posted yesterday

It always used to be said that the best referees were the ones you hardly ever noticed, but by contrast you always know when it's JON MOSS as the referee.

The case for VAR I think is now unanswerable.

Even aside from the controversy at Old Trafford, the Laca handball goal for Arsenal (and perhaps a contentious Palace second penalty), the Forest handball to score against Leeds are perhaps two extremely obvious examples of decisions that could have been reversed.

If VAR is brought in in such a fashion where the officials running it are equally as incompetent as the ones on the field and with no thought given to best practice, which tbf was the case in the trial program last season, then it won't help but rather hinder the game.

The World Cup showed better practice and more pertinently for any new system introduced here is that it can be done from a resources and practical point of view, most of the top European leagues are now running with it and seeing benefits.

It will still unfortunately have its share of howlers getting through and won't completely eradicate the injustices or dreadful decisions by any means but it would vastly improve the percentage of correct ones.

As with other sports, when initially introduced it is likely to be far from perfect and obvious flaws will need to be corrected, the trials currently running can never really simulate actual live match situations properly and can only take you so far. In other sports the systems were refined once introduced and did improve in time to a point where now the benefits are unarguable. We really can't have the current comedy of errors where only the referee doesn't know much longer.

If Spain and Germany can run it successfully then it doesn't make any sense at all why the richest league of all should still be in the dark ages.

People once took a stand against goalmouth technology, even after system had been tested and shown to work, remember Mr.Corruption himself, Michel Platini?

What the refs said about yesterday

Why is it always Jon Moss? - you can excuse one or two in that maybe not in the right position etc, but controversy follows this man around. (He looks fairly hefty to me too)

Clattenburg clearly thinks it was incorrect

MARK CLATTENBURG: Man United should not have been awarded a penalty for Idrissa Gueye's tackle on Anthony Martial... the Frenchman exaggerated his movement to make it look like a foul

Keith Hackett's view

No VAR, no sense

Referee's view | Keith Hackett on the decision to award United a penalty against Everton
The penalty awarded by Jon Moss for the challenge by Idrissa Gueye on Anthony Martial was another example of how we desperately need VAR in the Premier League.

From the angle Jon had I can totally understand why he pointed to the spot. But as more replays became available it was obvious that Gueye had actually got a touch on the ball before making any contact with Martial, who then went on to fall far too theatrically.

I think VAR would have seen that touch and overturned the decision. It really does baffle me that we can see at home that the decision was questionable, but the referee can’t do anything about it, and I think that needs to change.

but taking away the fact he touched the ball, the dive was so blantantly exaggerated and over the top. He won't get banned for it though, compare that to niasse who was pushed from behind which pushed him off balance. That wasn't a dive. Zaha's yesterday again, he lept 4 foot in the air, i stil don't buy into this contact is a foul BS. It's got to be meaningful contact. I agree you don't have to go down for it to be obstructive, but it would take a wile swipe for a player to go flying in the air like those two have this weekend, but this gets overlooked.

When VAR wasn't brought in at the start of the season, I questioned the honesty of the Premier League. Italy has always been considered 'a bit dodgy', but they were prepared to use VAR. The only reason not to introduce it was to allow refs to favour certain teams. Is this because of the PL, or the sponsors. Either way, we know the league is not genuine.

VAR won't improve things. The "panel" which reviews decisions will consist of the likes of Clattenberg, Poll etc.
Not defending referees ( how could I ) but the three people who reviewed Niasse's penalty dive were ex- professional
footballers, mind you, the pundits on tv had made loads of people's minds up: VAR is an instant review so should be a
fairer result, but I know what you mean.

Well that’s just made Sunday a lot harder, as this clown is the ref. Unbelievable how many times he’s done us over away to the big 6
That’s fair, but he is one of the worst, overweight, can’t keep up with play. And is all for the home teams, especially the top ones. Just look at his performance city v Burnley last weekend
His reward for having a nightmare at the Man City v Burnley game last weekend is a trip to Old Trafford,is it any wonder these refs are so bad when it’s the only job in the world where you are not accountable for your mistakes!
Good spot

Arsenal a 0-2, Chelsea a 0-2, Chelsea h 0-3, Man U h 0-3, Spurs h 0-1, Chelsea a 0-1, Chelsea h 3-6, Man C a 1-3

Home 0-0-4-3-13
Away 0-0-4-1-8
Total 0-0-8-4-21

Its not as if yesterday was a complete suprise atleast

I have heard that we have got this idiot again for Chelsea away too. Hope to feck its not true. Should not be officiating any premier league matches. Nowhere near competent enough, impartial enough or fit enough. Lost count of the amount of games so far this season that we have been victim of poor officials. If its not 3 yards off side misses and free kicks taken 8 yards further forward than should have been it is pens that are not pens, red cards that could be yellow at worst and there has been no balancing out whatsoever. It is impossible to not play the victim card when Everton very blatantly are victims of poor unprofessional and biased officiating.

Its about time the Everton Hierarchy started having a go at them for it like other clubs do. They are having an impact on our results and points and it doesn't matter that it wont change anything already done but it will bring attention to the problem and might make future refs think twice when officiating us. Saying nothing certainly wont change anything.

Exactly this, just seen the FA are not looking into Martials dive which is a joke.

The whole club are happy to be walked all over and im sick of it. Cowards on and off the pitch.

VAR is going to be useless if it ever/when come's in the prem league,as it will just be how any given person in charge of the VAR on that day feels,if they can have so called ex people and refs say that one yesterday was a pen even after watching it on replay, you might as well say every single sliding tackle were the defender wins the ball and the player goes over that its a pen if that one is a so called pen based by what the so called experts say lol, and how the man utd player no surprise gets away with it and hardly a thing said about it says it all, once again.

Stinks to high heaven.

Something needs to be done about the agenda to keep the money making teams where they are.
When the boss of the premier league comes out and says Manchester United being poor is bad for the brand of the premier league you something isn't right. Add up all the decisions that seem to go for them and the fact that they are one of the few clubs who voted against and still don't want VAR, it starts to smell even more.

Apart from Moss being an incompetent referee he also doesn't look fit enough to referee the game, it was highlighted on GOT last week how poor he is so his terrible performance hasn't been unexpected: The fact he puts these performances week in week out and is allowed to carry on in the premier league should come to the attention of those in charge: maybe the fact that it is mostly the top teams who benefit from his poor decisions is the reason he is allowed to get away with it.

This in lies the problem. I've not watched SSN today but don't suppose it's even been mentioned yet remember the decision that went against the RS and it was on for at least 3 days after. Everyone laughs it off if it's us, the ref would be punished if he give it against a sky darling so they are much less likely to be fair.

That was probs the first time in 30-odd years when I heard Everton manager saying bluntly that opponent's player dived. I've heard our managers claiming "we should've gotten a peno (actually the first incident comin' to mind included the word 'stonewall'...)" but it's a rare treat to hear that so well played from Silva.

Now: If the disciplinary committee would be consistent, there would be a 3 game ban coming to Martial. Which is apparently not happening. That then raises another question: If they think Moss & Martial got it right, there should be some sort of consequences for Silva (warning, fine, something. Though he said "I respect the ref etc", he actually pointed out that in the previous Everton match Moss was refereeing, he also made a crucial mistake. And if Martial didn't dive, Silva's then also character assassinating that Frenchman for calling him a diver).

The silence is deafening though.

Why will VAR take so long to come to the prem ? why will tthe sky 6 continue to get every call their way ? the refs plus every other fat cat on the Premiere league/sky /BT contracts will continue to make sure thier pockets are lined. Just imagine a top 6 containing ourselves .watford, bournemouth etc, the next sky contract would be a quater of what it is currently due to overseas rights. When this all comes out one day it will rival the Fifa scandel.
