Not according to Martinez, as of his press conference on Friday morning.

He categorically stated in answer to a question that there had been no 4th bid, and the most that had been bid was the 3rd bid of £30m. This was after Kenwrights statement when everything was put to bed.
Possibly what happened was that Chelsea briefed the press about their next bid but when everything was put to bed they realised bidding would just force the price up later when we eventually do sell, and so they never put the bid in. Either that or the papers are just guessing, which is also pretty believable.

I would expect that Chelsea will handle it differently next time. January is only four months away and Everton will still be in a very strong position regarding the length of the contract held by John Stones.
No manager will want to disrupt his team half way through the season and Chelsea will not be stupid enough to try to bully Everton again.
I do agree that next summer John Stones could well leave, but to where, don't rule out Utd , City, Barca, Bayern, Madrid.
Stones is high profile now and will be watched closely, if he has a good season he will be very much in demand.
By then hopefully Mori will have settled and both Galloway and Browning will be more experienced, Pennington as well.

We must look beyond Chelsea as they are now insignificant, not that they were ever any better. Stones is certain to become number one choice for England, hopefully he will replace that snide Cahill (come to us Johnny boy). If he continues to gain experience then the bigger his value will become. Even in Europe there is a dearth of decent centre halves so he must stand out like a beacon to RM, Barca and Bayern but my money is on Citeh paying £60 mil plus in 12 months leaving Jose with crap on his face and failure to qualify for the CL if there's any justice

Mine too as City could still do with a few more English players as well - they still only have Hart, Delph, Sterling, Clichy that count as homegrown and although they have a good academy they seem reluctant to bring some of the players through into the first team. Dimechellis is likely to leave soon, he is 35 this December, so they presumably willbe looking for another CB. They are also rumoured to be getting Guardiola and you'd think Stones would suit his style.

The Barry negotiation seemed to be done amicably and they even have a young CB Denayer that might be used in any deal...

4 years on his contract, sound lad unlikely to be a tit, english, unenglish traits of bossness, play this right and we could name our price in a years time, ideally he would captain us for 10 years, but the game dun changed

so the reality will be two 10 mill installments from utd some add ons, and some of their crappest players

:D

Lets be honest, john stones is a 15-20 mil player. he is not the finished article, he is good. people saying he is 50 mil need to have a word with themselves. if we could get 30 mil for him but at the beginning of a transfer window, that would be an outstanding bit of business.

Just had a word with me, Chelsea has set a standard for his valuation no one else but if they want the lad then it starts at £30 mil and upwards. Based on the realistic expectation that he does progress, especially with international exposure, the valuations are not far off being realistic when more than one club want his signature.

It's probably been mentioned in the 17 pages already but David Luiz went for 50m.

Stones, despite his age is a better defender.

I expect him to get a new contract offer before end of year with clear get out triggers inserted. We made a big song and dance about what we think of him, pay him what we value him at if thats the case.

Heard that comparison to Luiz last week.

£90m. But I'd keep him.

You what? A players transfer fee is decided by 2 things:

1: What the buying club is prepared to pay.

2: What the selling club is prepared to accept.

Chelsea were willing to pay £30m +. We told them to koff, so all we know for certain is he'll cost more than that for the foreseeable.

Add in the fact he's young, English, and one of the best prospects in Europe, then he's worth more than 15-20 million, even if we were actually trying to flog him.
