John Stones transfer saga

Sounds like you are panicking there mate.

Not so much. I am not worried about our current squad for example. It could be strengthened but without additions we'd be ok.

What does worry me though is the impression we are giving by allowing the speculation at Stones to not just persist but actually intensify and have a manager who has come out and said he feels it's out of his hands.

I am also concerned that if we allow Chelsea to push through a sale of Stones below his asking price it does not bode well. It sends the wrong message to our other young players.

Not really mate. He is an Everton player. Everton have stood strong but there has been a softening from what I can see over the last week or so. That worries me, as it's a pattern that has occurred before. The fact we have not gone and signed anyone makes me think we are waiting for Chelsea's bid and trying to sell him.

In what way has there been this "softening"? Also there is no evidence of a link between us not signing anybody and not selling anybody, it's pure speculation on your behalf. You're making baseless statements with nothing to back these imaginary scenarios up with and you're encouraging speculation on the managers position and authority within the club.

Your claiming there is firm evidence though. You said it just before.

I suppose we are arguing about what would constitute "firm evidence" really. The fact that we have had two bids for our player and other ex pro's saying a second club should try and sign him would suggest there is something in the story. I wouldn't call that "firm evidence" though.

As I keep saying, what worries me is not that I think we are on the brink of losing Stones. It's the change in rhetoric that appears to be coming.

Why are people's feet being held to the fire on 'certainty' over claims? It's a forum where opinions are given. If no one is categorically stating they know what's going on behind the scenes, and points of view are quite obviously based on speculation and noted that they are, what's the urgency on this?

Just seems strange to me. There's nothing remotely untoward being claimed.

I have to , with respect, completely disagree and challenge you on this.
Your presumption that Martinez is on board with selling, in his words, 'the best young defender in Europe' and 'a future Everton captain' is untoward, absolute pure hyperbole and complete delusion.

If stated as an opinion then fine...but a lot of folks including yourself tend to state your opinion as fact.

There are increasing stories in the press now talking about Everton being willing to sell. Likewise the managers comments and body language are a changing of output from 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I don't want any speculation about the manager. I feel sorry for a manager who has gone from 4 weeks ago saying we are not selling Stones, to now saying it is "out of his control". I am also speculating as to what has caused this change. You may not agree, or like my conclusions from what we've seen. You may draw completely different conclusions. But me drawing conclusions is not the problem here, the concrete situation is the problem not people giving their opinions on it.

I don't know why I keep coming back to read this thread. It's a madhouse.

John Stones is still an Everton player.

If you recall past years, Martinez has a habit of waiting until the deadline to make his final deals.

Chill, everybody.

There's been a steady stream of stories since the initial bid was leaked, there's been no upturn in the amount reported and it's always been one way traffic from Chelsea and their club friendly journalists. It's not become more intense at all and you and others have been pushing their point on this from the beginning without any evidence to back it up so I fail to see how the recent comments by the manager and his body language have effected yours and others opinion of what's going on behind the scenes.

Then why on earth wasn't the bid knocked out of the ball park with some stank on it? It's been left open by all parties at Everton. Having 'no intention' to sell is a world away from saying 'no sale, move on'.

I'm as unwilling as anyone to knock Martinez, but he's a manager working to the diktat of his employers at the end of the day.

Where did he say its "out of his control" lad?
Do you mean he said it in the context of he can't control if another club makes a bid for another teams player cause if so that means diddlyswat in the greater scheme of things
