John Stones transfer saga

Gladly.

I'm working off prior experience of the modus operani of that fine body of men known as The Everton Football Club Company Directors. I have no inside information.

..which is why I used language like 'for me', 'inconceivable to me' 'if that's the case' and 'scenario' in my postings.

Fair enough I just want to establish the voracity of the accepted wisdom that Stones is going, Martinez is aware, he's been shafted, there's no money, no-one will sign until we sell claims.

Will gladly apologise to you and anyone else if this is the case but my reading of the situation is somewhat different.

I think the club have to date, been exemplorary in their response to Chelsea's bid.

Re finance available for purchases that is dependent upon one thing - the amount of debt the club wish to carry through this next year. It's that simple.

Based upon what though?

Based on the top clubs wanting him and knowing his price will only go up next season plus all players will want to take the next step up and take the chance to work with John terry in his final year, work with José, double his wages, play in CL and with s chance of winning medals. It's all depend now on the fee.

Or...he is intent on finding the best way for his meagre budget. The type of player avaliable last two weeks August is completely different to in June and July. Believe me.

Last two weeks of August is a total different market to than the whole window. Prices go down. Players become available. Desperation kicks in. Deals get done.

The state of players bought in June and July are total different to last two weeks Aug.

I think you are absolutely right on that one and I've said as much in another thread. Aaron Lennon is the perfect example. Watch his asking price plummet from 9 million!

However as soon as sides get wind of the fact that we have a need for a centre half, it will embolden them. I would also like to think we'd go for a decent type of replacement for Stones as opposed to a make of a make shift castaway for a decent price.

Generally players who are no longer wanted go at this time of the season. First team players tend to stay. The lack of planning over this issue has been very poor.

Your last paragraph. Why so certain that Stones is going then?

Alternatively, being the sensible, well grounded young lad he is, he may wish to play a full season at Everton, continue his development in a less pressurised environment. Prepare for his first senior England tournament next summer, and possibly then take advantage of the inevitable offers that come his way.

Alternatively he may have grown to love us so much he decides to stay beyond next summer.

Maybe

Exactly. The situation has been mishandled for us to arrive at where we are. The manager's face tells you all you need to know.

Your scenario makes sense too. It could well be that once Chelsea made enquiries the reaction of RM was "yes, but only if it's crazy cash" and then to plan for spending outside of that with the tv money that Vibrac would 'kindly' pass on after taking their cut. It seems to me though that if that was the plan/understanding then it's in tatters now. This board are going to avoid sanctioning cash until they know what's coming through the door and will see buying players now as a strengthening of Chelsea's position on Stones: that we'd need cash in to cover dipping into tv revenue (which is no doubt ear-marked *cough* 'elsewhere') and become desperate for a sale.

It's an absolute shambles; one that only the ball bags who run this club could engineer. I've said it before and I'll say it again: they have proven conclusively with this tv windfall cash and their spending that you can actually find someone who cant organise a piss up in a brewery.

It just seems that way. Lets be realistic here, every player is always for sale if a huge offer came in. Thats what I thought we'd hold out for. (Unlike Barkley who I felt we'd have been more willing to move on).

What gets me, is our usual lack of foresight. Look at how Spurs handled the Bale sale, under pressure from the biggest club in the world. We have gone into massive panic and I have no idea why.

Common sense would tell you it's best to wait a year. We can sign Evans on a free next summer early on, then we can look to move Stones on from a position of strength knowing we have adequate replacements if the worst comes to the worst.

You can see the way the media is looks to sell our players. They make out we are in huge financial difficulties, our squad is lacking and the only way we can get the 3-4 players we need is to sell our star players and replace them with 3-4 others. The sad thing is many Evertonians go along with this narrative. The worst part is our owners seem happy to encourage it.

We have a very strong squad. We have cover in every area. We are lacking a bit for a creative midfield player. If we have to go 1 more season with Osman/Peinaar it will not be perfect but we are not on the brink of relegation either. We are also short at centre half, so selling a centre half isn't going to ease this.

But yes I suspect Martinez didn't really want to sell Stones. I certainly don't think he wanted to be going into the season thinking of selling him.

Your last paragraph. Why so certain that Stones is going then?

I am not certain. However I am a lot less confident than I was 2 weeks ago. What I am certain of, is someone somewhere within the club is allowing this story to continue or is not clamping down on it. There are too many hacks saying Everton will sell at over 30 million for me to think it's coincidence. Martinez's tone has also changed on it, from saying he won't go to saying it's not up to him.

It all follows a pattern I have seen happening on two many occasions before under this regime.

Hes not been sold for gods sake.

What evidence have you got that we have gone into massive panic? Your scaremongering in the extreme.

As I asked Dave earlier where is the evidence that Stones is being sold ?

So you will agree with the following?

There is no firm evidence that Stones is going to Chelsea?

There is no evidence that Martinez has agreed that Stones can be sold above a certain price?

There is no evidence that the Board has agreed to sell Stones above a certain price?

@davek confirmed there is no evidence at this time.

Your being dramatic and worrying over nothing.
Nothing has changed in the slightest in over two weeks.
Everton told SKYSPORTS that he is not for sale and they have no intention of selling.
