Sky Sports News.
However, there is one scenario that apparently would make the player re-consider that plan, and that is if Everton made an offer for his services.
Barton, born and bred on Merseyside, was a Toffees fan as a boy, and an offer from the club he supported could seriously "test his resolve" to remain at the Toon, according to
Sky.
There has been no indication that Everton are interested in the player, whose troubled past littered with disciplinary indiscretions, criminal offences and a prison sentence makes clubs somewhat wary of him, despite his undoubted talent. A rumour of an end of season dressing room bust-up with then-Magpies manager Alan Shearer added to the reputation for trouble he carries with him.
That reputation would also be somewhat at odds with the ethos at Everton, where manager David Moyes has established success based on discipline, loyalty and team work, which would seem to make a potential offer for Barton extremely unlikely.
